Anything you ship international is going to go through customs.
Before ordering, make sure it is something that is importable.
Things like scopes are not export/import items.
For ammo & components, prior ATF&E approval (with accompaning paperwork) is required.
Alot too depends upon if it's for resell or personal use.
Which leaves us with duty. (Tax)
This is usually only imposed over a certain dollar amount. Whatever your shipping in, has to have a proclaimed value.
Scope/optics are restricted items.
Run under ITAR.
It's not lost. It's confiscated.
Yeah- it seems exporting items to other countries is a much bigger issue. I did find imported items in general fall in to informal and formal categories. Thresold is $2500, and a minimum duty of $26.xx.We sent some "papers" to our son who is visiting in Canada and had to fill out a Customs for just for them.
Wait 2 more weeks. Same time last year I had an item from Canada. It took 4 weeks: a week to get to Chicago another week thru customs. I had the same info as you and 2 weeks later it showed up at my front porch. USPS probably did not pick up right away or not enough package to pick up yet. I did not pay any duty tax also.hmm. Seems like I am reading that optics were removed from ITAR lists last year.
and, it appears this made it thru customs per the Usps definition

Inbound Out of Customs
from the Usps website:
In simple words, inbound out of customs means that your mail has been released from customs to the USPS and soon it will reach you. But when the term outbound is used, it means that the mail you have sent has passed through the customs and is on its way to its destination.
Not sure why they would code it as such If it were confiscated.
And just like that it showed up today. So after working myself up into a lather, here is what I learned. omce it leaves customs, it’s scanned once then put in a big pile to get put on a truck. Not scanned again until it gets to your post office. Customs isn’t paid to deliver mail, just inspect stuff. They are in no hurry to expedite. (Local post office guy quote). evidently, no duty to be paid. I believe that is more for formal vendors exporting to US. Scopes and a few other things no longer ITAR, now come under EAR. And in both cases, this applies more to items exported from the US. I suppose if you import something you weren’t suppose to have, they would come knocking, but that part was never made clear.Wait 2 more weeks. Same time last year I had an item from Canada.
