Can stainless steel be cerrakoted?

I'm working a build currently. I have a blued Remington 700 action and a Shilen stainless barrel. Will stainless accept and hold cerrakote? Also, I'm thinking it should, but will the finish appearance change between the carbon steel and stainless materials?

Thanks.

No issue at all. The metal is all blasted with 120 grit aluminum oxide. It works on pretty much anything that will stand 300 degrees in the oven. I've done SS & some plastics as well. And when I say oven, I don't mean a kitchen oven. You do NOT want that material around anything that has food in it ever including a refrigerator.

Re: Can stainless steel be cerakoted?

You can use on SS as stated above. You also can bake it in your home oven I have spoke with company reps. they stated it would not be an issue. You can visit their site they have a lot of information there about product and application. I prefer a air brush to apply a bit more control for me specially on gun parts. Make sure you have a robust prep process it does make a difference. I coated some knives and small parts to start with to get the method down. Really not that difficult to apply clean up is smelly and does need to be done in a ventilated area because of the solvent you use not the cerakote itself. You should bake off the solvent after the cleaning process not in the home oven. I let the first applications just air dry however for guns you want to bake solvent off. Also preheat helps the coating process. GOOD LUCK have fun.

Muley your wife would have your arse if you backed in her oven. It ain't the greatest smelling stuff...

It is a learning curve to be honest. I've done Cerakote for almost 10 years. I "learned" on paying jobs. A mistake but I had a good foundation on spray applied coatings. My point is, practice DOES make perfect. As stated by others, prep is everything. I will send you some SS junk barrels to practice on if you wish. You pay shipping.

swd you would be correct my wife would have my *** if backed into her oven. When I baked in the house I did have a vent for the range. However did not think it was that bad. Built an oven from a full size double oven free from craigslist. I found starting out over coating was the main issue you could practice also with some nuts and bolts to fit together after coating.
