Can mount Anschutz rail directly on synth stock?

Hello, is possible, and for stability effective, mount one piece of Anschutz rail directly surface mounted on synthetic stock whitout milling one pocket?

Thanks!

Maybe, but I would not expect it to be. I also would not expect it to be very durable.
The amount of contact between the stock and the rail would likely be very minimal. The amount of torque on the screws that would be necessary to hold it would also probably not be good for the stock material.
You could probably do it without milling a slot in the stock but would have to use something to build up around the rail to provide it some support.

Unfortunately I cannot mill a pocket for the Anschutz guide.
I installed the Picatinny rail using 2 predispositions inside the forend of the stock.
It is a stock, factory setup, I don't think it can be so delicate as not to allow a small piece of Anschutz guide of about 4" or 5" to be retained in place.

As soon as possible I insert football photos both externally and internally.

The rail will surely stay on the stock - until you load it with a handstop and sling. There's a lot of force going thru the sling that the rail/stock has to deal with.

Much of the force of handstops and accessories is transferred to the stock directly when the rail is mounted flush. I expect that surface mounting would not stand up to sideways forces, resulting in the rail rolling off the stock. When I mount a rail I use at least 2 through bolts that are secured by nuts and washers in the barrel channel; wood screws and epoxy alone will not hold.

I am following this discussion as I am considering 3D printing a lower fore stock addition for my Boyd’s AT-1 stock for my Kimber 82G. I have a rail section and know where the lower plastic parts screw into the composite so I think it will work if I can print one with the holes aligned and glue and drill through the Anschutz rail to mount it to the stock.

Hello to all,

I not use handstop or sling, this is not a hunting rifle, not AR platform, myne is Sabatti Tactical Synth, like this on the photo.
The second photo are the stock predispositions for screws to attach picatinny for bipods, only bipods.
Sling swivel is not mounted on myne (central hole).

Not a problem if the forend is beefy enough. You may need to add a washer to distribute the load when countersinking for barrel clearance, and reinforce with epoxy.

Yes. I have attached a rail onto wood stocks using "large" wood screws which are adequate to absorb the recoil depending on the caliber. For heavier recoil it is better to drill holes through the forend to attach using bolts, whereby the nut must be countersunk to clear the barrel. The countersink will thin the forend thickness and could require using a washer to distribute the load in this reduced area.

Looking at your photo it appears you want to install through the pillars? Fill them with epoxy, then drill and use heavy wood screws. Or cut the tops off the pillars to provide clearance for nuts over bolts.

Hello Charlie,
the caliber Is a gentle 6,5x47 Lapua.

Yes Charlie, I've already used the pillars for mount a Picatinny rail for the bipod.

I used 4,9mm diametro self tapping screws, and this Is the system usually used for this assembly for this type of stock.

I didin't used threadlocker for plastica material, maybe acrilico superflue would work?

I don't think there Is a Need to reinforce the strutture with epoxy material.

That's the sort of thing that would be just fine, until it wasn't!
I always overbuild accessory mounts that the gun will be carried from. I can't imagine a more embarrassing outcome than having a gun dropped because of a failure.

Hi, everyone works as they see fit.

There are thousands of Sabattis with this type of stock in Europe but also in the Americas. I have never heard, read or seen a bipod attachment for this stock that has broken.

Sometimes the imagination plays tricks...

It shows monsters that don't exist.....
