Usually you'll be shooting with two other guys on the same target; one shooting, one pulling targets, and the third scoring the guy shooting. You rotate. So, unless you're eyes are really good, you'll want a spotting scope when you're the observer. Chances are one of the other two guys will bring one, but if you have one bring it plus a stool or chair to sit on.
Unless you're experienced at mid/long range shooting, work up a little cheat sheet ahead of time so that after you shoot a spotter you'll have some idea about how many clicks you need to turn your scope knobs to get to the center. A Google search will show you the target size you'll be using (depends on the distance) and any ballistics app will produce the rest of the data you need to quickly correct your scope settings.
If you don't have a pad yet, bring a moving pad or old quilt. Check out what the other guys use and pick a style you like because there are quite a few choices over a wide price range.
