CAn An Old Remington Wood Stock be made to fit a Savage?

I have an old Remington wooden stock that I would like to make into a Savage stock. Is this worth the effort or should I just buy a new one that fits?

A decent stock from Boyds runs around $90 unfinished (I think). You can make the conversion but may be filling actions screw holes and relocating bolt handle inlets. One would be working around the existing magazine and trigger cut-outs. If you need a project, go for it. If you want to shoot soon, buy one.

Just what I was thinking!😀 I could make a stock out of a 2x6, but....

One of the South African team wind coaches at the F-Class Worlds at Raton in 2013 had the ugliest 6.5-284 Savage F you've ever seen. The wooden stock was on its 7th different barrelled action he told me, moreover had been stolen and recovered in two pieces and crudely repaired. The rationale was that it was light and that allowed him to get a heavier / better spotting scope within his airline baggage allowance. (Wind coaches must shoot in the individual matches to qualify as team members, but may not be as bothered about scores as many.)

What particularly jarred aesthetically was a triangular chunk cut out of the stock body under the rear right of the action to accommodate the Savage sear and external sear lever. It would be difficult to bodge most non-Savage stocks without doing something pretty horrible in this area.

If you were not so far away, I would give a savage stock. I have 2 hardwood (beech) 110 long action stocks out in my garage that are good to go. but it is a long way from Central PA to AZ. I prefer to get Boyds stocks at about 100 each plus shipping.
