Can a .204 Remington be re-chambered to a 20 practical?

The practical is somewhat shorter than the 204, the barrel would need to be set back. I wouldn't waste my money on that. There is nothing to gain.

Really the only gain is that you cold use 223 brass but with the 204 brass avail I agree..not worth the cost..use the money to buy brass ..bullets primes and powder and shoot the thing

That's pretty much the conclusion I came to. $50 worth of brass vs. new barrels, step bushings, rechambering etc.

Wish Remington would have thought of the .20 practical first, but they can make more money this way. Maybe later.

I was in the same boat as you are, about 2 months ago.
Had a Savage 204R rechambered to 20 Practical.
I already owned plenty of 223 brass.
Small investment to alter dies, 120 bucks for rechamber and recrown.

When I built my 20 Practical. I used a new savage Model 12 action and barrel chamberd in 204. My smith removed the barrel and shortened it just enough to chamber the 233 brass. Neck the brass down with a 204 neck sizer and fireform. I think the neck sizer had to be shotened a little on a lathe.
