Calling all AR15 guys.... what caliber?..

What caliber...

Looking for a fun gun... I want HARD HITTING... short range... hog gun... Im after power here, nothing else... 50 to 100 yard absolute hammer... probably run hollow point pistol mag bullets for harder hitting... (think 460 S&W.. if I could put that in an AR thatd be a ticket)

Kicking around:

300 HAMR
450 bushmaster
50 beowolf
350 legend
458 socom

I cant think of any others that fit this bill...

Which is the most powerful? Ive never shot any of them...

Just found a 45 raptor for AR10... basically a straight walled 308 case... that may pack a punch...

I recently pieced together a 7.62x39 AR for short range hunting. It has been impressively accurate with steel case ammo and functions flawlessly, so far. I researched it pretty well and went with C Products mags which are said to be the most reliable.

RPR makes a 300WM now. If you’re on a budget that’s always an option. Krieger makes drop in barrels for them

Great ammo makers, bottle neck for reliable feeding, works with your 556 mags.

YouTube black butterfly ammo and look at some of their bullets going through gelatin.

The top two pics are cases compared to 223, then mag pic, finally compared to 300blk

The only thing that has my attention more is 8.6 creedmore.... yes that’s a real thing for you creedmore feens

You can't beat a 450 Bushmaster for hogs.
I'm sure some of the others are just as good but the Thumper kills them DRT.

The 25 WSSM is a heck of a Hog round. I would load the 120 gr Barnes X.

Mimics a 45-70 in an AR, uses 458 bullets vs. the 450 Bushmaster that uses 452 pistol bullets (though you could swage 458s to 542s if you wanted)

Loaded ammo is available from many

Hits like Thor's hammer at shorter ranges.

Personally i like my 6.5 grendel. I built it for a hog gun. It has been very effective.

300blk will do everything a Grendel will do. Same with 6.8, especially at hog hunting distances that usually happen in low light.... go 458socom

243 wssm works in a small frame AR. Nothing better from a ballistics perspective. For a large frame AR, 6mm Creedmoor.

Are you saying a 300blk will kill a hog as good as a grendel at say 150yds? Hogs are fairly tough to kill
