For a while I have been considering building a long range match rifle. I already own a pss in 308 and I would like to do something using a Savage short action rifle that I already own.
I have shot in 1kyd matches before with service rifle but I am looking to build a long rifle rifle to shoot with or without a scope at 1000 yards.
In the pastI have looked hard at the 6 mmbr and the 260, In addition I am now lookinfg at a 7mm wsm, which would require another whole rifle. Due to powder usage and barrel errosion it looks like the 6mmbr has some real economic advantages, but I am not sure about the ballistics. On paper things look one way but Id like to hear from some guys who have used or seen these calibers used in comparison against the 308. I have no expieience with these calibers so I am asking for some guidance
In the area of long range target shooting at 1Kyd is there a significant differance using 6mmbr, 260 or any other round that will fit in a savage short action over the 308?
2, how do the 6mmbr or 260 compare to the wsm cartriges at 1kyd
3 Does the 7mm wsm posses enough improvement over the 6mmbr that it would warrent the sale of one rifle and the purchase of another?
