Caldwell Stable Table Bearing Upgrade

Has anyone ever done a roller bearing upgrade for the Caldwell Stable table? This would be where the nylon washer is used for the pivot point.

If you come up with that bearing upgrade, I would buy two of them ! I have often thought of the same idea while prairie dogging. JCM24M

When I was developing the BR Pivot, we experimented with both ball and roller bearings. End story is that if you indeed do use bearings, plan on adding a brake of some sort. Ask me how I know.

The Delrin (plastic axial and thrust bearings) worked out the best for overall performance. Keep it clean, light lube, and she'll rotate with ease all day. My two BRP Lite's are still going strong since 2001 (Caldwell took my BRP, cheapened it up, and came up with the Stable Table. Same bearing material for both.)

I have upgraded my two tables with a sheet metal shim, around the bearing shaft to take away most of the play and can be greased on both sides. makes it spin as smooth as butter.

Can you elaborate on the sheet metal? Did you buy it at the hardware store? What is the thickness?

as a contractor, I had some left over flashing hanging around, so I just used what I had. one shim is .023 and the other is .020. I also had to clean up the the burrs on the inside tube and the shaft. I formed the sheet metal around a smaller diameter pipe, that way it had a little prebend to it. My shooting buddy welded a bolt sticking out of the bottom of the shaft, a cross piece to the bottom of the leg support and then a nylock nut, so his can't come apart. I have accidentally pulled my apart several times when trying to move it when the legs are attached, but I am used to it now.
I also found a cheap solid wood table off of craigslist to make new tops, and then my friend came up with the idea of replacing the seat with a tractor seat from tractor supply. I can't imagine shooting off a non rotating table anymore. that would be like going back to using a rotary dial phone.

Chuckshooter - I think you would get some funny looks should you drive around town with that rig. I like the stabilizers (3 out of 4, visible), rodents & snow!

Private land OK, at least in the states where I shoot- if you don't stop it is a drive-by event.

Novel idea for good visibility, but I bet
it sure eats up your gas mileage. In some
states shooting from a vehicle is illegal, just
sayin. LDS

Purchased a pair of ball bearings on e-bay. Will have to sand down the shaft a few .o1mm to make the inside diameter to 60mm. Will see what happens.

Not a Caldwell, but similar. I cut another washer, maybe delrin, from some plastic stock I was given. The two stacked washer smoothed it up a lot. I use powered graphite for lube. Tried grease and light oil. Attracted dust and got stiff over time from dust, been to few dog towns that are not in dusty climates.
