Caldwell BR rests

Apparently there are two BR rests, the 1000 and a 440907
I ordered the 1000 from Midway thinking it was the 440907, wrong.
Is the 440907 a better rest than the 1000?
I still have time to send this one back, I hope.
TIA

I'd like to find another Caldwell BR1000 but it looks like they have been discontinued.

My understanding is the 1000 is designed for shooting 1000 yards with heavy guns. The 1000 weighs 24 lbs, compared to 15.5 lbs for the 440907. I think it is taller as well and will require a taller rear bag. It looks like the top is better on the 440907 model than the 1000. The stock stop on the 1000 looks kinda cheesy and cheap.

Neither of them have a great top though. The windage adjustment on the 440907 pivots around an axis rather than moving in a linear line left and right and with a heavy gun is pretty much worthless. The return spring is not strong enough. Not sure how the 1000 works or if it even has a windage adjustment. The bases on both are very good. Some people keep the base and get a Sinclair or some other brand to replace the top.

For the money both are very goods rests for what they are. I doubt you would find any serious competitors using one, but for the novice they are a good start. By the way, I think Battenfield (Caldwell) no longer makes the 1000 model. I saw today there were on sale for $100 at Cabela's, so they must be closing them out.

I ordered a Fudd top, but won't get it for 6 Mo, so I guess this wil haveto do till then.
Thanks
