Cabelas sucks find me a factory target rifle

5 years ago Cabelas told me that if I wanted to order a Remington 40 x they would do it for me no problem. The past 5 years I have been saving Cabelas points with the end goal of ordering a target rifle that I could use for a multitude of purposes.

For the past 3 months I've been fighting with them because when I went to order it they told me Tough luck sucker. We won't order it for you because we only buy guns in bulk from our distributor. we would have to mark it up huge since its a ine off so much it's not going to be affordable. So I asked how much with your Mark up which essentially seem to call a bluff because then they said no we just can't do it.
So I asked them what they could do for me and they said feel free to look around and buy other things. I don't want other things I want a bench rest rifle and this is the only way I'm going to have the money to buy one. Does anyone know of a Factory rifle of any brand that Cabelas might be able to get and that would shoot as good as a 40x. I was looking at the 40xb repeater in 308 as that's the caliber I want.

PS don't ever get a Cabelas credit card they will screw you. Go get one that gives you cash back instead and spend it where you want it. Wish I had. I could have ordered my rifle. At this point I likely will never get one.

A nice old target rifle in 30-06 went on Gunbroker a couple days ago for a little over $500, have to keep an eye and ear out everywhere.

First off, what makes you think a NIB 40X is going to shoot well enough to be called a target rifle?
Remington can't find their a$$ right now, much less build a good product.
Second, I've had a Cabela's card for way more years than I can remember and I've used my points to buy all kinds of merchandise from them online. They have never once said "no you can't use points because blah blah is on sale; they even let me use points to cover shipping costs when applied.
Third, you will need an optic for whatever you get. Use your Cablea's points on a nice NF or such.
Lastly, I don't think Bob at Shooter's Corner takes Cabela's points and that, the way I read it, is the way the OP wants to purchase.

Buying something and selling may be an option. Will loose a percentage but better than nothing

Key is I have 2500 in cabelas points on hand (300 at scheels left as I bought fish finder last week)
2 young kids
no cash.
Butt load of 308 brass powder and bullets.

If there is something that is close to a 40x it's better to buy from them. Is cooper close?

The Cabela's near me has a fair assortment of good used guns and some are "target rifles". Can you use your points for one of them?
Alex came up with a good suggestion. I bought a Remmy 5R Tenth Anniversery. It shot so well, I bought 3 more. Sold two of them to friends who really love them.

In my opinion, God may have been doing you a favor. For what a 40X costs you could get a cheap Remington 700 from Walmart or a pawnshop (or maybe even Cablelas used rack) and have a good smith build you a rifle just like you want it.

Have you tried the Cabela's Gun Library? Probably plenty of them there. And yes a Cooper is probably better than a stock 40X.

+1. I bought mine (6mmbr) from Bruno's a number of years ago and its been a shooter from day one. The only thing I had done to it was having the trigger changed to a Rifle Basix SAV2. And it shoots in the 1's (consistently) @ 100 yds when I do my part.

Alex
I have the 12 LRPV left port in .223 with the Basix SAV-2 trigger. You'd have to hit me in the head twice to steal it from me. The .308 was just too much gun for a 70 year olds shoulder now.

Your first mistake was going to a mass marketer and expecting their salesman to know what he/she is talking about. The 40 X is way over priced and their QC standards lately is at an all time low. 25-30 years ago I longed for a 40XBBR benchrest rifle and could not afford one.......only to learn later that 40x's were rarely even used any longer in real Benchrest Competition.
As far as Cabelas points, I have gotten thousands of dollars of free merchandise on the backs of those cardholders who keep buying on their cards without paying the full balance due each month.

Go online and look through their Library of guns, if you find something, not sure, but bet they'd ship to your locale.
With that, Cabela's not the place to buy guns other than the stuff they buy in bulk.

I purchased my Savage 12 FTR/308 From Cabelas two yrs. ago just called them up at their Hamburg Pa. store and asked if they had one in stock, was shipped in from another store had it in a few days just placed a depots.
Call Cabelas and ask them if another store has one
