Bushing Size?

I have a regular full length sizing die for my 30 BR. Come to find out I should have got a "Type S Bushing Full Length Die" OK, I'll get one, now "What size Neck Bushing?" Was told by Redding to start with a .001 and work up to get the proper press fit of the bullet. "WHAT is the proper press fit and how would you know????? After sizing the brass now, the neck is .3085. Is a .307 or .306 OK?

First, you need to know your chamber neck dimension.
Second, you need to know your loaded round neck dimension.
Usually, loaded round goal is .002",2 thousands) under chamber size.
Generally, bushing size then is .002 or .003 under loaded round
dimension.
Neck tension is part of the tuning process, so you may want to get 4 or 5 bushings under, starting at .002.
Then your covered in the future for different bullet diameters and/ or change in neck thickness.
I use a Redding Type S full length die.
With a "Robinett" chamber, the die is a perfect fit, with a modest tweak of the brass.

What I have now is, " A good round loaded is .328 at the neck,.010) fired it's .330 OD then after the die it's .3305 which makes it .3085 ID neck. So neck it down to a .306 ID?

Forget about the case neck ID when talking about a neck bushing. What you want is a bushing that's .001" or .002" smaller than the case neck OD of a round loaded with your bullet of choice. If your loaded case neck diameter is .328" you should start with .326" and .327" bushings. That will give you a good point to begin with.

Thanks for all your help, All of this was new to me. I have never reloaded for competition type bullets only standard hunting, 308, 30-06 etc Again, Thanks.
