bushing in firing pin hole

CatShooter said:
First off, it is possible to get the head of a bolt to 300 degrees without having "bigger problems". If ejector retaining pins get stuck, or crud solidifies in the ejector hole, a heat gun is a useful way to get them out.

Alright, that's fair. I wasn't considering heating up just the bolt. Calling your reply "absurd" was wrong. Applying heat to a bolt that has glued-in or -on pieces is always an issue. For the record, Greg has told me that whatever material he uses for securing his bushings is good to 600 degrees.

Secondly, if he taps and screws in the bushing, then what is so proprietary about that???...

Beats me.

I was not looking for an argument... I simply posted what Greg told me when I asked him about bushing by bolt...Call him and ask him about our conversation, preacher says that Greg remembers the conversation, and what he said about how he did it at the time.

Okay, fair enough about not wanting to start an argument. I took your post as demeaning to Greg. I read too much into it.

Several years ago someone else suggested pretty much the same thing as you about how Greg bushes his bolts. I called him and asked him if that's what he did and he said "No." He added that he didn't tell anyone about how he installs his bushings as he considers the process proprietary. That's why I'm skeptical that you had this conversation with him.

In the end, it doesn't matter to me what Greg may or may not have told you. And it doesn't matter to me whether the bushings are screwed in or pressed in. The former is an issue between you and Greg and until I have a bushing fail, I don't really care about the latter.

Either way, your point about applying heat, screwed-in or pressed-in, was valid.
