Bushing a firing pin

I am experiencing primer flow and pierced primers on a Rem700 footprint custom action with a .068 pin diameter. The manufacturer checked the bolt this week and everything is in spec. Firing pin diameter, firing pin hole diameter, firing pin protrusion, firing pin shape, etc.

I am think would be nice to have the pin diameter reduced for peace of mind. I called Gretan And they are not interested in taking this work.

1. Is there any reason why I should not reduce the firing pin diameter? Any disadvantages to doing this?

2. Any recommendations for a machinist that is qualified to do this?

Sometimes it isn't just the pin diameter, it's the clearance in the bolt that it can extrude into.

I think pretty much every 700 I rebarelled got bushed and the pin ground to ???

Likely a couple M-70's as well.

And then there's my Ruger M-77 ... a novel required to tell that story...

Reducing the pin and hole diameter can't hurt anything and should help.
I guess I just wonder why you would have problems with a good fitting.068 pin.
I have the same questions that you do.

Unfortunately, I am experiencing the symptoms that I mentioned in the OP with loads that should not be over pressure. So…bushing the pin can’t hurt, and might help

You have to be shooting very hot loads. Backoff. Do you have bump gauge? Been shooting a Rem 700 since 1969. Never had a loose or pierced primer. For some strange reason the signs of pressure are not the same for every rifle.
