bushing 700 firing pin ?

I've gathered up all the parts for a 6.5x47,and have an old short 700 here. Is bushing the firing pin inevietably required?

Most of the time it is required, but you need to shoot it, and find out from that if it's really needed on yours.. Mild loads may be OK, but if you plan on leaning on them hard, you'll probably want to do it.. Gre-Tan does a nice job bushing the bolt...

It seems best to go ahead and have it done before chambering a new barrel. I don't imagine it's possible to have it bushed later and not change things with the bolt face?

And for 75 bucks! That's impressive. Usually I set myself up to spend lots more than that by being in a hurry.
Thanks for the insight

when my 308 accuracy international was rebarreled to 260 I had to have firing pin hole rebushed to 20 thou smaller and the firing pin reduced in size 2 thou smaller than the hole, Result problem Solved, However when I had my Rem 700 rebarreled to 6.5x47 I did not have to have this done, I might add I always load to the max and still no problems, I use CCI 450 primers. dooley

Thanks Dooley!
Looks like all this stuff will get dropped off next week at Gap and I'll bsuy myself with crappie ntil it's done.
You prefer the 6.5x47 over the 260?

Hi justme, I prefer the 260, it seems more accurate, I use 139gr scenars + 43.5grs Accurate 4350 (winter) and 43grs in the (summer) COAL 2.900, the 123gr scenars are almost as good and with much higher velocities, its probably not fair for me to compare at the moment as the 6.5x47 is still fairly new to me and the 260 I have put 2500 plus rounds through it and it still shoots as good as new, to me it seems easier to find an accurate load for the 260 than it is for the 6.5x47.
Regards, dooley
