Burris xtr ii 8-40x50 for varminting

I usually stick with leupold, but curious on everyones thought on this scope for varminting out to 600. The glass looked pretty good at 30x, 40x was ok. Anyone shooting with one?

I don't know about anyone else but Burris' quality seems to have gone downhill. I'd look elsewhere, NF, Sightron, or Leupold.

FWIW, I used the Burris last month while removing pests. The closest varmints were about 700 yards from the suppression platform on out past 1k. Most of the shooting took place with the scope on 30X. The FFP feature worked great. Downsides, the parallax adjustment was not crisp and I was not completely able to remove all the parallax. This was mitigated with proper sight alignment. Additionally, much past 1K the glass was not clear enough to distinguish the varmints in the grass where the NF scopes were capable of this. However, for 600 or less the Burris should be enjoyable to shoot. Just my opinion.

Well this answer and .25 cents will get you a half warm cup of coffee at the Flyng J.

I had the same problem with my Sightron...replaced it with the Burris you mention and my problem went away...shooting a Savage LRPV 204 at pdogs and squirrels at 250 to 500yds all day long and the parallax adjustment worked perfect for me.

not sure of current Burris quality......but my dog scopes seem to always be

set on 12x or up to 16x max.....mirage is always an issue.......

I bought one for long range varmint steel. I use the heck out of the lower 20moa windage cross hair. I'll dial 2-3 minutes and hold twenty so wind is right on that scale. Works great. Now that I have been using it for most of a season, I find I like it best between 20-25 power.

At first, I had a terrible time with the parallax settings. My 8-32 sightron also, gave me fits with figuring how to set parallax at first.

Now that I've used it, I realize that I probably should have gotten a lesser power, and I may trade it off some day. For now its doing a good job.

Re: for varminting

I haven't used the Burris xtr ii 8-40x50 but I put a 40x45 Side Focus leupold competition 1/8 min target dot on my ackley swift manly because i had it on hand. I dont shoot out to 600 yds, or use windage much as i keep shots to 400 yds and under using 55/ 60 grain, i can see hit through the scope most times, it track's well and it works great on cooler days and mornings. It will focus down to 50 yds. But mirage can become a problem as the day warms up.
