Burris Signature Universal Dovetail Rings...New question ?

I don't want to put ring marks on my new 1" scope tube, so I would like to use rings with the plastic inserts. Are the "Burris Signature Universal Dovetail Rings" made for scope bases that have the FRONT ring that locks in by dovetail, and the REAR ring is held by the 2 windage screws ?

The rifle is a post 64', Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, factory chambered in "7mm x 57" with Leupold 2 piece bases. (front ring locks in via dovetail, rear ring is mounted via the 2 windage screws.)

The Burris website isn't real clear about how these rings mount to the base.

Re: Burris Signature Universal Dovetail Rings

Wanting to do the same thing, use Burris Signature Rings for my Borden Action with Davidson style DoveTail bases, I called Burris direct. They do not make the Signature Series rings for Dovetail Bases in any of their forms, Regular, XTR Etc.

I have ordered Kelbly rings since I was told they are made to such high standards that they reduce the change of ring marks if installed correctly. I will see.

I do have two set of the XTR Signatures on order, that come with a complete set of inserts, but will have to use them on my Weaver Style Bases / Picatinny Rails.

The Burris Rings have been on back order since July and they told me yesterday another two weeks before they will ship.

Re: Burris Signature Universal Dovetail Rings

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that they have made both styles. "dual dovetail", and "windage adjustable" style.

Re: Burris Signature Universal Dovetail Rings

Thank You all for the replies!

I just talked to a guy who said that they make them to fit my application.

Re: Burris Signature Universal Dovetail Rings

I did not see what tube diameter you were looking for. I was looking for 30mm Rings and revisiting the Burris site, there are Dove Tail Signature Rings for 1" Tubes, but none listed for 30mm.

If you are actually able to get a set (30mm), let me know what the part number is as when I talked to Burris not a dealer but them direct they said that they do NOT offer their rings with inserts for Dovetail mounts. Maybe the manufacturer is wrong. They do have the style that goes into the square opening and tightens down with two screws, but not for the other end if it is a regular dovetail like the Davidson.

Re: Burris Signature Universal Dovetail Rings

R Kittine the dovetails you guys are talking about are different. He is looking to use Burris rings on a Leupold standard base or one of the other manufactures that make the same base. Think hunting rifles. You are looking for the dovetail like on a Panda benchrest action.

Thanks Ebb, That is exactly right and those are the ones I wish I could get and am sorry that I can not. Sorry for confusing the original poster.

No apology necessary. :)

I ended up just going with Kelbly Polished 2 screw rings for my Borden action with the Davidson Dove Tails and the smith assures me that with his lapping and the quality of both the Borden dovetail installation and the Kelbly rings, that I will not have ring marks. We will see? Still going with Signature on the other build he is doing for me, but that one is getting a rail.

Good Luck , Bob

Bob, I have noticed some scopes have harder finishes that aren't susceptible to ring marks. I bought a used Trijicon with a set of Weaver rings installed that must have been tightened with a 1/2" drive torque wrench and there were no ring marks after removal.

There is a Nightforce going on this build, so we will see. Maybe it will never come off, then no issue with ring marks! 8)

A buddy of mine uses labels off wine bottles to lay in his rings. He says the scope never moves and will not let ring marks. Matt

If ring marks are a concern, wipe a little layer of rubber cement on the rings. It also nullifies the need to lap your rings ;)

BTW: You can achieve the same results with silicone rubber 8)

The ring it self is the culprit! I have a 6.5 -20 Leupold VX3 it was mounted in Leupold standard rings (hunting) the rings are cut with way to big a gap between the halves and the VX3 may be a 7/8s tube at that point. Some one way over tightened the ring screws. Ive not seen a problem with good rings or the signatures.
