Bunch of Questions

Ok so I'm thinking I want to build a 30BR for some BR shooting and just all around fun. I won't be doing many competitions that are real "serious". I want to be able to shoot out to 600yds with faily good results. I've never had any BR guns or built any for this so any advise is appreciated. I am more into tactical style shooting but figured having a BR gun in my safe would be nice. New ground to me.

I have a stock remington action with a 308 bolt sitting in the safe, would I be better off getting a new target action or having this one true/blueprinted? Will i really see a difference in overall accuracy for my minimal competition use? I know I'll need a new bolt so i guess price wise they aren't far apart. I do like thinking with some modifications I could have a repeater but i know thats not ideal in most BR guns so its very low on the priority list.

The 30BR has always interested me. They seem to have longer barrel life than other BR chamberings and are supposedly very simple to load for. Are they really that simple to load for to get one that will shoot well?

Glue in stocks? Whats the benefit of these vs stocks that use action screws to torque them in properly? Glueing seems like it would be a huge ordeal if something needed to be worked on to get them in and out. Are they really that much better?

The 30BR's are awesome, and yes, easy to load for. Their forte is 100-300 yard score shooting, but will group as well as about anything there is. 600 yards is pushing one and wind drift will be terrible if you set it up like most do, for light bullets. They'll shoot if you do your part...just very unforgiving in the wind compared to the better suited cartridges.
As for the action...smart money is to bite the bullet and buy custom. Not so much that it'll be more accurate, but the custom will have some advantage here and largely in resale value. You'll wind up with basically the same money invested in a properly trued Remington, but will bring very nearly 50 cents on the dollar of the custom. I'd go with the single shot if it were me, but it's been shown in Hunter class that the repeaters can shoot with them. IMO, feeding is probably a bigger issue. I don't mind a single shot being a single shot, but I hate a repeater that's one :'(.
Barrel life is about as good as it gets. I still don't know anyone that can say how long that is...somewhere between 6000-10,000 rounds. I know that I won some matches with a barrel that had 8K plus ;D.
If you go with a custom action with a trigger hanger, what reason is there to remove the stock? I can't think of a good one. If you use a Remington, I can....removing the trigger. Before hangers, gunsmiths put holes through the stock to access the trigger pins on glue ins. Personally, I prefer glued and screwed, opposed to either/or. But if bedding is perfect, it'll work fine without gluing. The advantage is the assuredness of a stress free bedding job with a glue in, with zero movement.---Mike Ezell
