Bumps Causing Classifieds to Lose Usefulness?

Good day,

Are the For Sale post owners causing the classifieds to be less useful than previously? Trying to find new ads, but most of the ads in the rifles and the components sections are bumps by the ads original poster. Filters don't provide a good way to sort out the bumps.

I like that some of the other forums limit it to 1 bump every few days, and some only allow 1 per front page.

It is very annoying when 1 person has 8 different and take up half the front page every few days when they bump them all.

And even more annoying when they are all just 1 type of item like stocks or scopes, so instead of combining into 1 post they take up half the front page again

If you are trying to find something particular, advanced search is your friend

I don't really use the classifieds, but IMO the bumps tend to do a couple of things: they keep the available items grouped towards the top (rather than being randomly distributed among the sold items), and they indicate that the items are actually still available.

I do see the aggravation with bumping several times a day though (especially if you wade through the thread for additional info.) A procedure to bump occasionally without adding to the thread would be good.

the big problem is that folks fail to put the red sold button or say that it is sold in the ad headline.. i for one am and i am sure that there are others whom are tired of clicking on an ad thinking that the item is still available then finding out that it is sold..

I check the classified ads regularly; I can scroll down through the ones that have been bumped a few times just as fast as I go past the brand-new listings that don't interest me. I don't go past the second page, so I don't blame the guys for occasionally bumping their stuff, it needs to be seen to sell.
I'll add that a few guys do seem to abuse the practice a little...
YMMV

I look every day, usually just after that really awesome deal gets snagged by @joshb. But otherwise I see zero issues with it as it is. It's like shopping...sometimes you have to look at the same shelf of goodies several times, but sooner or later you see what you want.
Non issue in my opinion

It seems the bumpers just can't wait to bump. Then you have the bumpers that bump for the OP's bump. The insanity of it all. :)

Here’s a heads up, Parker. I don’t have time to shoot what I have accumulated. I’m done buying! Finished! They’re all yours! I’ll still look, tho. ;)
What irritates me is the guy that continues to bump an overpriced item, like a used barrel. I watched one get 50 bumps by the seller.

It's the people who have 7 threads at once and bump them all. That's what's making it cumbersome. I would rather we have a limit on how many active Selling/ and Wanted/ threads for one person.

amen to that. Or people selling open boxes of bullets at prices above the online retailers.

yeah and the person with 8 separate classifieds ads is purely reselling to make money. the classifieds page should mostly be for the average joe selling their used gear at a discounted price, not looking to make a profit, unless its their kid making 3d printed parts or something.

We don't allow excessive bumping. If a user has been warned about this, and he/she persists in the practice, his or her account will be permanently closed.

Because ad modifications are allowed if there is a price change, new product image, new shipping terms etc. it is difficult to enforce anti-bump provisions.

But to give you an idea, one member bumped his ad twice in one day, that's after 10 times in the preceding two weeks, he was notified that this was not acceptable.

A week later he did that again. His account was immediately locked, his IPs were blacklisted, and he will never post here ever again.

what about the users that are clearly reselling to make a profit? and are cluttering up the page with their 8 threads in a row?

I think you nailed it Bro. If your junk is waaaaay over priced you get no action soooo you bump it to death hoping for that one sucker and well you find out that most of the members on this form have seen your crap before. Bump on we are not buying.

Please identify such accounts by sending a PM to Forum Boss. Commercial businesses are not allowed to use the standard Classifieds for selling commercial inventory. If an entity is acquiring products at wholesale and reselling them, that business is only allowed to advertise through the commercial section as a paid sponsor.

not commercial inventory or wholesale, but still reselling new/like new items for profit (i have evidence). i have nothing against this, but they should be a paid commercial account if the intention is to make money.

edit: i lost the evidence, oh well....
