Bullets sticking in bullet seater.

Trying to do a little testing on one of my Dasher tubes. Pretty much been shooting Bergers and Hornady 6mm's all my life. Trying to seat some 103 VT's with my Forster Ultra Micrometer seating die. Actually, I have TWO of them. The bullets stick in BOTH of them. Have to take them apart and pry the bullet out of the stem....on BOTH dies. Stick a 105 Hybrid or 108 BT in and they both work great. Been loading them for years with ZERO problems. I took them apart and cleaned them....no joy. Tried to put a little light oil in the stem....again....no good. It is only the VT's that give me the trouble.

Any answers?

And NO...I will not sell my VT's :D

Thanks,

Tod

So, how will the modified stem work with the other bullets I shoot?
Thats the real question :), if your issue is that your existing stem is “pinching” this particular bullet on its ogive, and you modify it to fit, then another bullet profile could theoretically have issues.

Same issue with the Forsters I had. Bullet would stick on stem. Polish fixed it. Then found some Reddings Comp. And did away with the Forsters.

Just another alternative, I use Wilson seaters with VLD stems (drifts as per Wilson) from Wilson. In your current situation, I would attempt to modify or polish my seating stem, as noted above. Hoping you are successful.

Maybe a split stem too. Happened to me reloading 168 smk for an m1a. Too much neck tension was the culprit. Forster took care of me no questions asked.

Assuming you don't have too much neck tension, lap and / or bed the stem

I did the polish thing using the only lapping compound I had......scope ring lapping compound. Again....no joy. I would polish for 30ish seconds and try it....then another 30, and another...etc...... Must have polished for 10 min. No good.

Also.....WOW...is Redding ever proud of their Dasher Comp Seater.......279.95. Even with my 1/2 off coupon that stings!!

Depressed,
Tod

How much is a whidden seater? Thats high as a cat’s back.

I was told by someone here that bought one of my old Forster seaters that their older seater stems
where made with a different metal than the newer ones.

Take apart your die , clean and test where the stem is rubbing/sticking on them long skinny VT and maybe order a new stem -OR ...Switch to Wilson in line & Arbor press and be done with problems.
