Opinions, speculation, inside info? We have a big change coming and I'm trying to guess if bullet prices are going to continue to rise or maybe fall some. Look into your crystal balls and give me your best guess. Josh.

Hey Josh,
Care to share what "big change" you are referring to (other than getting rid of that YoYo in the White House)? Just curious...and I can't imagine the price of bullets going anywhere but up over time. Thx.

Well, Trump "had" talked about smacking China around and maybe hitting them with tariffs. Not sure how far this America first is going to go and I'm no expert on the World metals market but a guy I talked to at a cocktail party said China is sucking it dry and causing elevated prices. Then, I think the defeat of Hillary will let the hoarders relax and slow thier buying. I like to buy in bulk and was looking at the wisdom of "buy now or buy later". That's it, basically. Tho, I'm on my first cup of joe and it usually takes 3 before I can think clearly.

In reality (if we can allow reality to creep into a discussion) there is very little a President can do wrt tariffs because of GATT. There are anti-dumping provisions, which the US regularly invokes against China and some other countries but you have to be able to prove your case. I've said it before and will keep saying it. To get American manufacturing jobs back we have to change the tax system from one that taxes production to one that taxes consumption. So, if this comes about there may be a 15% tax added to everything, including shooting supplies. Your income tax, employment taxes, etc. would go down, so you'd probably have more money but everything would have a higher price tag, at least at the bottom line. Will this happen? I doubt it. Too much resistance.

The built in 5% increases don't help either.
Everyone wants a raise every year.
Best to look for bargains and stock up on sale prices .

With Trumps import tariffs (proposed 35 %), I think I'd look at powders as most of them are imported ....just my thoughts

I think everything has been marked up for the last couple of years. Companies and middle men were selling at record pace. They were steadily marking up prices for a few years. Powder went from 99.95 to 170.00 for an 8 lb. jug, in a short time. That is considerable markup. I believe if it slows enough they will have to drop to move it. Look at rim fire ammo and how fast it went up. Now I also believe the government will slow down buying it also. Matt

Part of the cost increases come from regulations that make domestic manufacture cost-prohibitive. I've been told that powder manufacture is particularly heavily regulated.

The idea of taxing consumption is something I would like to see get traction. Flat/fair tax would be a good thing, but alas, I am no expert.

Obama managed to shut down the last remaining lead smelt in America. We are now dependent on imported lead. Fees and regulations have driven up the price of everything we do especially in the shooting industry. It is sort of death by a thousand cuts. Obama has proven one thing the constitution can be ignored with impunity if you happen to have a charmed existence and a little help from the media.

Whether Trump can mitigate any of this is anybody's guess. My belief has always been that taxing consumption might not end up being as fair as it sounds. I have always thought that flat taxes were the fairest. I don't care how much anyone makes I would just like everyone to pay the same rate of tax. I never bought into the soak the rich scheme. The rich didn't get that way by being stupid. They already have an unfair burden.

Business taxes are nuts here. The less we can hinder businesses the better off the employees will be. People go into business to make money, not give it away. Companies leave home to get away from unfair taxes and regulation. If I were king I would turn them loose an let them make money. If we are going to regulate why not have all businesses that employee more than 200 employees build and maintain 1Kyard shooting facilities. Sounds fair to me..

All the opining we do won't amount to much but hurt feelings. Trump has a yuge job of selling anything he may want to do to congress. Anything that gets done will be with their blessing and the democrat rats are not dead yet.

This election should be a wake up call to our republican establishment boys. Much more shuck and jive from McConnell and Cornyn et.al. will likely land them in the ranks of the unemployed.

It is going to take a long time I think to unravel the web that the democrats have woven. At least we are in a position to get started with it, thanks again to all those in swing states.

Two more true strict constructionist on the court and the bureaucratic overreach could come to a screeching halt. The court needs to enforce the separation of powers and force the congress to do its job and prohibit the executive branch bureaucracy from filling the regulatory law writing void with bizarre and unaccountable legal stretch regulations. Regulations that's could never get through congress and drive the price of all kinds up. If the court were to change in this manner all kinds of things would become less expensive. Powder and bullets would definitely benefit from reduced regulations.

Maybe Trump will open up that smelting plant for American jobs. He's a builder/developer. He knows, as I do the affect of rampant EPA regulation . We had to stop a new development to look for a bug that once lived on the property. Cost tens of thousands of dollars and we were a small operation. Never did find the bug, after a couple months of looking. Don't get me started on "wetland regulation". I stood in the middle of a working farm with an "inspector", arguing about a low spot in a cornfield that had a puddle in it. The inspector was saying that it was wetlands and had to be protected. It did no good to point out that the farmer had plowed it up for the past 50 years because farmers were exempt from such regulations. Developers were not.

I'm glad I got mine before all those darned hoarders. Stock up as you can afford is how I see it. I hope to never see another primer shortage.

Joe, I agree on the flat tax/same rate for all earners.

Regarding bullets, powder, and primers this Thanksgiving; I am thankful for many of the businesses that are at the top of this forum advertising as they have much of what I've needed when it was bare locally.

If Ebell is appointed to the EPA, lots of restrictions will be lifted. We might end up living in a toxic environment, but some things like lead should become cheaper.

Never understood why people want more taxes. If we get a consumption tax, the possible reduced income tax will only be temporary; government and politicians love taxes since they live off taxes. Tax rarely decrease and if they do, it is only for a short period.

And brass. Imports we depend on because of their quality ain't going to get cheaper, and if Trump wants a trade war to prove some nebulous point, they, Lapua and Norma, may not be available unless you mortgage the farm. Anything imported will escalate in price. Pistols, rifles, cars and trucks.
