BULLET POINTING

There is a very good article about bullet pointing on this website. The url is:

Good shooting.

Except for a few of the Pindell pointing dies, there is only one bullet pointing die available to the public and that is the one made by John Whidden. The reason -- patent protection.

The Whidden die allows you to not only close the meplats on bullets that have been sorted to the same OAL,critical in meplat closing), but it also allows you to make micro adjustments to point bullets equally out of a box of unsorted bullets that may run .020 ES between bullets.

Good luck,
Jim Hardy

Shawn- I used the pointing die last year at the range. Once on target I could alternate a unpointed bullet with a pointed one and the strike on the target would be a foot lower with the unaltered bullet. Consistently higher with the pointed one, better BC with the altered bullet. Any better accuracy- don't know. One of the other shooters would point the bullet, metplat trim it and repoint. He swore that it helped him. I never tried that procedure. He did better than I did this year so that may say something. Sorting the bullets for length is important to insure consistency. I used the whidden die.
