Bullet choice for varminting 6.5x284???

I posted this in the varminting section as well.....

6.5x284

What bullet are you guy`s using for long range,700-1000+ yards) varmint shooting, squirrels, rockchucks, groundhogs??????????

Since a 6.5mm x .284 could knock a 900 pound Elk to its knees, I feel it may be a bit much for Gray Squirrel hunting, regardless of bullet choice. Turning a squirrel inside-out requires a .223 Remington with 40 grain bullets. Even a 6mm bullet, at 70 grains seems way too much horsepower. Sounds like you're in the market for a squirrel-sized firearm, such as a .17 Remington to add to your collection. cliffy

Dang blasted varmits. Those squirrels cost me money a month or so ago chewing up the wiring under the hood of my truck.Thinned them out with some extreme prejudice, haven't had a problem since- thanks to the 10/22 Ruger, left the 6CM in the case.:D

Been having great results with 140 grain A max.
They hold very tight vertical out to 1000 yards and beyond.
The bullet expands violently on varmints where SMK's and Bergers you tend to get shoot through.
The load I settled on was 51.5gns H4831sc with a Fed 210M primer and the 140 A max 10 thou off the lands. This load gives me a velocity of 2930fps out of a 30 inch Krieger 1 in 8 twist tube. As usual work up to this load.
Cheers and good luck.

Like Dennis says,'Never enough bullet fer Varmints'.. I like the large Amaxes for beyond 500...

Keep in mind at that distance bigger is alot easier to spot your shot too..
