Building a Rem 700 L/A .300 Win Mag

I am wanting to build a .300 Win Mag from scratch....never attempted it before. I have a good local gunsmith who can help, mainly I'm just asking about the parts.....this rifle is for target shooting only, I don't hunt anymore. It will be going in a chassis system.

Remington 700 Long Action Magnum receiver - $400
Shilen blank barrel - $300
Chassis - XLR Evolution, MDTTac HS3 or Tac21, MPA BA


What am I forgetting, if anything? Thanks a lot!

Thanks slm9s.......I believe the trigger is already on the receiver.....

I forgot about the lug......


Already have a base, rings. Mags will probably be the AICS detachables.

How do you determine the size of the muzzle brake?

If you are going to use for some organized competitions, some do not allow muzzle brakes. Also chambering will add some cost to the project.

Mags are $70 minimum each.

Thanks....I don't plan to use it for any competitions.......I use my .260 Remington Bench rifle for that. This is just a "fun gun".

I will be buying a Remington 700 L/A magnum action and a blank barrel......if I decided to go with a different caliber (say a .300 RUM), it would just be a matter for the gunsmith right? It wouldn't change what I bring to him??

PTG has stainless long actions with a factory bolt for $410 right now I know the link says 223 but its a link to a ultra mag rem700 action

Or these and bypass the smith for truing the action. Just buy a barrel blank and have the smith fit it up. would make for a nice 300win build.

Barrel nut. Then you can screw on the Remage barrel yourself, and change as necessary.
