building a new 6.5 bolt gun

I want to know which one will give me the best long range accuracy?
6.5 creed, .260 or a 6.5*47? I know there are others but I have narrowed it down to these, don't want to go the A.I. route

I had asked the forum the same thing just 2 wks ago. Most everyone stated to go with the 6.5 Lapua. But I decided to go with the Creedmoor , due to ammo and reloading components are about everywhere. This is what by build parts are .
Rem.700 sa cm, HS Precision varmint stock , Badger m5 bottom metal, Proof Research 26" Sendero contour barrel. I plan on hunting and shooting steel out to 700 yards. The weight of the rifle should be 7lbs 12oz completed + the glass.
Good luck on your build

I have had a 260 rem. I am loving my 6.5x47 though. It is almost getting boring shooting 1" groups at 600 yards ;D

I went with the Creedmoor due to affordable match ammo for when I don't have time to reload. The Hornady brass is pretty good and is about $38/50 cases. If you don't want Hornady brass, Norma and Nosler offer brass as well. I don't think you will get much of a velocity advantage with any of them. The Lapua may have more accuracy potential due to the small primer and case design.

This is why it's getting old answering these questions. They ask the question, get unanimous answers, and still ignore them and do what they were going to do anyway. So, why waste time and bandwidth?

Build both a Creedmoor and 6.5×47L. Call it an experiment.

Not to beat a dead horse, but this question has been asked a lot.

I suppose one of the biggest reasons the Creedmoor is chosen over the Lapua is the factory ammo availability. That is surprising to me as I suspect most are hand loaders that have rifles built. Maybe I'm wrong. ......

Most people asking for advice are actually looking for praise....

I would love to build two and call it an experiment but the next post who be " Is there anybody in central Vacuum with a room for rent".

If the whole factory ammo thing was an issue the 6.5 Lapua wouldn't have made the list.

I look for praise from NO ONE! I think people might ask to make a more informed decision. If I want praise I would be writing a bs post saying " I am buildind these three rifles all on Bat actions w/KRG chassis w/Atlas bipods and S&B optics. Which one do you guys think is gonna shoot the best?"

Please don't bother to chime in unless you have constructive info!

Wow, if you don't want to answer 6.5 green guys question why did you even bother to post!!!! 6.5 I have a 6.5 wsm if you are interested pm me

If you are not stuck with a short action,a 6.5 x 55mm ,good brass, easy on barrels, will do just about everything the others will... just my 2 cents.Jim

I've built four 6.5x47s for myself (including one on a BAT 3L), and have generally been very pleased with them. Great thing about the shorter Lapua case is the ease of seating long bullets out, even when using them in AICS magazine fed rifles.

Have also built a couple of 260 Imp 30*, and like them very much, even though the 6.5x47 has a slight edge in accuracy (seating depth of 140s for use in AICS mags may have a slight negative effect on accuracy).

In long actions, the std 6.5x55 has been excellent, though having to trim fairly often due to body taper got to be a drag. I finally bought a 6.5x55 AI reamer and set my Krieger med Palma bbl back a thread & then opened it up with the AI reamer. Not getting a significant increase in velocity, but accuracy is still excellent, and I doubt I'll ever need to trim the fireformed cases again.

One thing's for sure - the 6.5x47's recoil in a 14lb prone rifle is very mild compared to the 6.5x55AI.
