Building a Load for custom 6.5x55 Swede

I had a 6.5x55 built on a Savage 110 Action with custom barrel and stock. I am building it for 600 yard plinking. I had the barrel cut for 140 grain A-Maxes. I am exploring the various loads for this cartridge. My first question is what is best for the 6.5 jump or jam? What is your experience with this cartridge?

Some like to jump, and some like to be touching, only you can find out what your barrel likes..
Start off with a very light touch, and go from there..

I have been loading for the 6.5x55 for about a year. M98 with Kreiger heavy varmint barrel, 28". I have had very good success with 139-147gr. bullets loaded with Rel 22, Rel 26 and IMR 4831. I would start with R22 with approx. 45.5-46gr. My rifle is most accurate in the 2750 fps zone. Low pressure, low recoil and fast enough. With the 147 gr Hornady reduce loads at least 2 gr. Besides the added weight, it has much more bearing length and more pressure. The 147 with Rel 26 is surprisingly accurate and fast at approx. 2820 fps.

Hi, i've been shooting the swede in both the original military configuration,(keeping it mild because of the action...) and in 2 reworked and rebarrelled model 700's. I mainly shoot 142 sierras in lapua cases pushed by H4831SC using a BR-2 primer. I seem to have good results with them just touching the lands, and I am not pushing the load,it is still under book max. I have shot under 3" on a 7" steel swinger at 600 off the bench pretty consistently. Jim
