Building a 03A3

I have a complete and unmolested 03A3 that was installed in to a sporter stock and I'd like to put back in an orginal stock.
It's a good shooting gun and I'd really like to bed it in a new stock.
I looking for info on how to go about this.
Thanks
Donny

Finding the right stock.....in good condition will be your biggest obstacle. You know the sources, gun shows, on line, shot gun news, etc. Once found the bedding is the easy part :). Sorry I don't have an outlet for 03 stocks. Do you have an aversion to replicated or do you want original?

Numrich has scant second stocks , original military for about $70 . I've bought many .only a little damage under the frt band. If not try Sarco .

Doesn't Boyds Stocks have 03 stocks? They sure have Garands. Hardware is the next hurdle. Numrichs has some the last I looked.

I have a new repo stock, hand guard and all the hardware.
What i need is instruction as to how to go about the process of bedding the action.
Where and how to releave the hand guard keepers. Stuff like that.
I read that the barrel needs to have a slight upward pressure near the muzzle.

These guns have been around for a long time and I was hopping there was a set of instructions out there.

Too many variables in deciding which way Togo. I would suggest shooting it and then play . The direction of the forearm wood grain , the density , the barrel it's self , will all determine the barrel pressure , if any will work . If shooting in class it may not be legal to glass bed the action . A couple of points right off would be , make sure the trigger is not touching anywhere , make sure the bolt handle doesn't touch the wood , make sure your crown is fresh .

If you want a military type stock, buy a c stock set from the cmp, as far as fitting it, you just want to make sure that the barrel channel does not touch the barrel until the last 2-3 inches, where you want 7+ lbs upward pressure. This is achieved by scrapping the bedding pad. I did have a stock from them recently that the trigger guard cut was not deep enough and I had to deepen it to get proper fit.
If you want to ever use this in cmp vintage matches, do not bed it. Honestly glass bedding doesn't really do much on a properly fit stock on an 03. It will improve an older oil soaked stock or one the wood is crushed on.
If you want an original usgi, go the the cmp forum , a good stock set is about 150-200, depending on what it is.
As far as fitting it, do not relieve the handguard keepers nor anything else. You want to make sure the upper handguard does not touch the barrel, except on the metal clips. The handguard should sit on top of the stock .
My go too o3a3 that I have placed in the top five at camp Perry with is fitted this way. It takes about two shots to warm it up, which takes the shots from the bottom of the 10 ring to the top of the x ring. All o3's fitted this way do this imho.

Can anyone tell me what the thread pitch is on the action screws. I have both standard and metric thread gauges and none of the samples match the threads on the screws?

1/4-25 tpi on the action screws. Kind of a remnant from an old metric thread, once common on US Service rifles from the 1800's.
Brownells has taps and dies, but quite expensive. If you want to make dummy screws for bedding, try stockmakers screws from Forster.
