Builder for Custom .223 Long Range

Looking for recommendations for a .223 long range bolt. I have a couple of builders I'm looking at. Right now Wolf Precision is at the top of my list. Back injury forces me to give up my High Power Competition. Just can't do the standing and sitting positions any more because of pain. But I should be able to bench and maybe prone. Want to go with .223 as I have been working with that round a long time with some good load buildups. Plus, as we know, very easy on the body when shooting it.
Looking to go out to 1000 yards max.

Thanks for any imput!

Pierce, Borden, Long Rifles Inc, there are tons of great builders.

I think the key here is to know if you need the 90gr or if you'll stick to 82gr or less. This will be key to your builder, and should you be indecisive, I'd suggest 82 or less and throat it if you want to go 90s. That would mean you're well in the 1:7 or 1:6.5 twist barrels.

You've got your load work-ups, a few dummy rounds could be helpful to the builder you choose as well.

I've been experimenting with 80's for a while now, but I keep thinking I want try 90's out of a 1:6.5 and AI chambered. Many folks trying this?

I haven't seen anyone make the move to 90s for sure. Throating for the 80s works in a wylde type chamber, the 90s need more... If you check the ballistics and stability calc, one might decide the 223 case is running out if steam with the 90. Personally, I'd plan for 80s as you've worked with them, maybe try some deep seated 90s to see how they shoot and throat them if you like them.

90s and the 223 cases are a challenge. I have been at it 5 or 6 years. Have barrels in 6", 6.5", 7" and 8". Still have not figured it out for 1000 yards. But switch to the 80s - and all charts match.
If you want fun guns to shoot - go the 6 BR or 6 Dasher.

If you want to read about some other people's experiences with the 90's go to the small caliber section and go back a few pages. There are people having really good luck with them.

If you want the option to try the 90's you need to have a long freebore, at least a .169. This is what the people I know that are having success with them are using. Something that some people don't realize is that you really do get the best of both worlds with the long freebore, you can still use the 80's with that length. My rifle and a guy (search skiutah02 on here)I shoot with have both had really good luck with the 80's. The bonus with using the 80's and the long freebore is you gain quite a bit of case capacity and that allows for higher velocities and lower pressures.

I love shooting the 223 and any one that I'm going to use for FTR will be chambered with a .169 freebore from now on. I might even lengthen it to .200

Here's another link. Skiutah02, gstaylorg, and Laurie have written quite a bit about the 90's. I assure you that you won't be sorry with the .169 freebore reamer, no matter what bullet you choose from 69 gr on up. Good luck.

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. I have found someone to build the rifle for me. The only hard part is waiting for a Borden Action for it!
