Build me a F-Class Open Rifle

I shoot in some informal LR Matches most 800 yards in. I'm 68 so doubt I'll travel far to shoot. I have to shoot off a bi-pod and rear bag at these club matches. Need a gun I can beat everyone with. These guys are purty good. Few of them build custom rifles. S&S Precision.

Thanks for your opinions and ideas. Also best places to find components.

1. Caliber
2. Stock
3. Action
4. trigger
5. Barrel
6. Etc.

1. 284
2. Kelby, McMillan, Cigar Cop, Cerus, your pick
3. Kelby, Borden, Pierce, they’re all good
4. I like Jewel
5. Brux, Krieger, Douglas, Bartlien you pick
6. A good “Smith”

Pretty windy in Plano, like OKC, so would you be shootin NS or EW? Pretty hard to shoot EW at 800 yards in the normal summertime 15-20 mph south wind.

Shoot as many as you can before deciding.

If you come to Winnequah Gun Club on a Wednesday morning most of us
will let you shoot our rifles. PM me if interested.

Maybe others will make a similar offer.

One thing— these aren’t AR15s where the whole essentially the sum of the key parts. With a precision gun, you can get all the right parts and still be disappointed. Paying for premium labor is almost always worthwhile.

This is an excellent reply. It really is that simple. But you say off a bipod? So are you shooting FTR or Open, as you said Open? If you're shooting FTR you could buy a factory Savage and they show it's the Indian not the arrow.

1. Caliber- 300 WSM
2. Stock - Cerus
3. Action- bat or borden
4. trigger - jewell BR
5. Barrel - Brux, kreiger, bartlein at 30 inches
6. R.A.D. recoil absorber
7. March High Master Scope
8. Crimson Accuracy in Argyle, Tx, Johnny was a smith building guns for Stick at S&S before Stick closed the shop. Hes built several of mine, fairly fast turn around and all mine shoot lights out. My other smith is Speedy if you want to ship to SA. If I built this gun Id probably take the parts to Speedy personally and endure the wait time. Either smith will deliver a hell of a shooter though.

You are in Texas. Give Omar Alonzo a call. He is one of the best of the best. 713-283-4384... He builds A LOT of winning rifles>>>both F-Open and F-T/R...

First off just want to say that’s a brave thing you just did asking these guy to help you spend your money o_O

why the bipod for f open ?

I love you guys!!! Thanks for plating along. Here's my deal. I have a custom ALTUS 6.5 Creedbore, It shoots really good but its more set up for Hunting with its Swaro Z6 5-30 with a set Ballistic turret.
The group of goof balls I shoot with are all on the Texas Hunting Forum. Anyway one of the guys has a sweet little 500 yard range where we have LR Rimfire and 500yd steel challenge, which is start on the 8" plate, to 6" then to a 4". Its a double elimination, which means you could shoot a few rounds or 100. There are 20 of us this next match in September.

I'm going try and make it work with the Ballistic turret instead of a dialing turret this time. If I get my azz handed to me then it's time to build a winner or at least NOT Dead Azz Last.

I guess my budget would have to be $3K-$4K without optics.

I also just had a new .223 built by Alamo Precision Rifles near me. I'm waiting on my new NX8 MOA/SFP to arrive in a couple weeks.

The only "Rules" so far on these matches is must shoot-off a bipod with a rear bag, no Machine Rest AKA Open Class. I probably wont shoot anymore true FClass cuz I'm 68 and don't want to drive all over the country. Been There Did That. Gun Then was a custom, single shot 7mmWSM

I'm thinking this gun will be one of the very popular 6mm's. One which I can buy brass and do minimum brass prep (no-turn) . Really would like to get away from the bushing dies also.

Guess I'm gettin old AND lazy !!
