build 6mm remington

would like to build a rifle in 6mm remington would like to use 70 grain bullets up to 100 grain bullets what lenght action do i need to start with? will be using a magazine what twist barrel? barrel lenght will be 26 or 28 inch thanks

I believe that when Remington decided to get things right so that the 6mmRem would stabilize a 100gr bullet whey used a 9.25tw. I owned one of their early Varmint Specials, It was nothing more then a 24' 9.25tw varmint contour barrel set into a BDL stock that had the barrel channel opened up. It was a great shooting gun and handled everything from 55grNBT to 100gr hunting bullets and kept all of them under 0.5 moa. Barrel length is a matter of personal choice tied to what the rifle will be use for. I have two 6mmAI 8tw one is 27' the other 28' I can't tell two cents difference in them as they were cut with the same reamer. Bottom line is nothing slower then a 9.25tw or under 24' in length.

outback900,

I second what JR said. On the barrels, I tell the gunsmith to leave it as long as he can, so it can be set back later.
