Budget oriented varmint scope recommendations

I am trying to decide on a scope for a budget varmint gun I am putting together. It’s going to be 6mm Remington that I hope to try and shoot at gophers/prairie dogs to 600 yards plus. Since this is a budget oriented project, I need the scope to be in the $4-500 range. Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Re: Budget priented varmint scope recommendations

You can get a new Nikon Monarch 8-32x from The Ammo Zone for just over $500. With that caliber and scope, you could get way out there.

Re: Budget priented varmint scope recommendations

A used leupold would be great. A newer 6.5-20x40, with 1" tube. you should be able to find one used in mint condition for that price. If not, you could buy a new Leupold 6-18x 40. I think they are right around $500 new. Don't overlook the Nikon scopes either. the buckmaster 6-18, even maybe a monarch, not sure of the monarch prices. look at swfa.com or riflescopes.com, that will give you an ideal of how much new ones are. check cabelas and bass pro websites, sometimes they run sales on them. don't forget the classified section here, always good scopes there.

A fixed t36 weaver would be great fo your ap. I just sold one, but they are pretty readily available and reasonable. Great glass for the money

I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a used Leupold. The warranty is still honored, even on used scopes.

Over the years I've picked up several excellent used Leupold scopes. One was a used 12x with target turrets, it's turned out to be a great varmint & target scope. A fixed power scope can be very worthwhile, and just might be available for less than a variable.

If the 6.5-20x Burris Fullfield II scopes are anything like the 3-9x and 4.5-14x that I own, the deal at SWFA is a smoking price at $250 for the duplex reticle. Wow, considering buying one just because that is such a great price.

Check out Natchez Shooters. They have good prices.I have 6 Prairie dog guns they all have Weaver Grand Slams on them.Cost a little over 350$.

I REALLY LIKE USED LEUPOLD VX2 6-18 TARGET. I GOT 2 FOR 375 EACH AND LOVE THEM. CANT BEAT IT.

The Vortex viper 6.5-20 PA is a great scope for around $450. These scopes compare very well with scopes in the $800-$1000 range. The nitrex scopes on sale at Natchez are also a great deal.

Hi all..For anyone interested here, I have 2 Sightron Sii mildots that have been great scopes, very clear, and track perfect. Made in Japan. I am selling one to fund another rifle project. these are in excellent condition with box, papers, lifetime warranties etc. Will send pics if interested. Asking $395 shipped. Best Wishes all.

If you shop this site you should be able to get a Leupold Veri-X-lll 6.5X20X40 with a Adjustable Objective front lens. Besure you get the Veri-X-lll not the VX series. The glass isn't made in China on the Veri-X's In my opinion is far better than the VX"s. You should be able to get for $500.00 or a little less. There is nothing wrong with the Veri-X-ll 6X18 but if you can afford the Veri-X-lll it is a far better scope.
