Brux bbls are fast bbls ?

Today I chronograph ed my standard loads out of my 7 WSM today I have a Brux 26" SS 9" twist bbl. 69grs of Re#19 behind a Hornady 139gr SST produced an average muzzel velocity of 3550 ! I couldn't believe it ? I then shot my 22 auto pistol through the chronograph and it read 1100 fps and that was what it should've been. Then my 45 auto 890 fps so was that ! So thumbs up for Brux bbls !!!!

Nice speed with the 139's, but the next barrel make not be close to that, or could be more..
Gotta love Brux barrels though no matter what..

That's 150 feet faster than a 7 STW and 100 feet faster than an Ultra mag, both w/ 26" tubes in the Nnosler book.....I ain't buying it....

How is it that the chronograph recorded the 22 rimfire and the 45 auto accurately ? My 7wsm has a muzzle brake and screens were 15 feet away ? :o

I am building a 338-375 Ruger on a Brux barrel with 1 in 10" twist. Planning on 26" barrel, maybe 27". If I could exceed 3000 fps with the 250 gr Berger VLD's, I will be tickled pink :)

Your input of extraordinary speed with a Brux barrel gives me hope for making the speed I want. We'll see ::)

Try one without the brake and tell us what it says please.

That speed sounds crazy, but I suppose it's possible...

I have seen 3250 fps with a 140gr bullet with a 280 Ackley from a Browning A-Bolt with a 22" barrel. So maybe 3550 fps from a 26" barrel in 7 WSM isn't too far fetched?

When I used to shoot a 300 Win Mag, I had a load for my rifle that pushed the 180gr Swift Scirocco II at 3230 fps in a 24" barrel. Those are UltraMag speeds :)

But when we tried the same exact load in my Fathers 24" barreled 300 Win Mag rifle, the bullets only traveled at 3060 fps!!!

So there is such a thing as a "fast barrel" ;)

Or false chronograph readings ;)

Nope. Verified the old Chrony Aplha with my new Chrony Beta. Same thing.

Can't say that chronograph was wrong anyhow because we witnessed the same exact load reading 2 different speeds in 2 different rifles with 24" barrels. One was 3230 fps, the other 3060 fps. No breaks, same chronograph, same distance from muzzle..

Well that is quite a difference, I have always seen your slower results for all my 300wm's and as high as 3100 but that was pushing it for my rifles.

I could PM you the load if you like and see what kind of speeds you get with it in your rifles. Won't post it on here because it's a little beyond SAAMI load specs, but have never seen any pressure signs.

Even currently use the same load in my brother-in-law's Browning BLR 300 WM. But instead of using the Swift 180 gr, we put a Hornady 178gr A-Max in it. Shoot's sub 1/2 MOA and pushed the slightly lighter bullet at 3250 fps through my rifle. That load does about 3210 fps in the broth-in-law's rifle with no pressure signs either.

Brandon,
No thank you but thanks for the offer, I have a awesome load that works perfect for me, I soot XX grains of rl-22 in a Norma case, with 210 grain Berger's at 2880, I have on several occasions put 5 in 5 at 1K there at deep creek just playing around after a match, I let my son compete one weekend with it at 1K but just to much heat for my hunting rifle, 10-14" groups with 4 to 8 sighters and 10 record rounds, my other .300 is a #70 win and it shoots the 180 interbonds and accubonds really well also with rl-22 and or H-4831.

Yeah that was the problem with my 6.5 Rem Mag hunting rifle when I tried it in competition. When I was first sighting it in the day before the shot with Dennis, I was flipping clay pigeons on the back drop behind the 1K targets. Back drop is about 1023 yards I think?

During the sighter period, I would be drilling center of target, but then when it came time for the 10 shot record, I would always have 3-5 flyers from the barrel overheating that made my group 14"-16".

But as a hunting rifle shooting 3-5 shots, it is extremely deadly at 1K :)

I've seen a couple of fast Brux barrels chambered in 7WSM. I've also seen a big difference in Krieger's that are chambered in 6CM (6MM Competition Match). Mine is 125-150 fps faster then my buddy's. I say it is possible.

Nice hijack guys....

;D

You can only go so far with a subject before there's nothing left to talk about on it, then sometimes the subject drifts. Ever had a lengthy conversation with friends where a specific subject changed a bunch of times? Of course you have ;)

People always talk about hijacking. I think if the issue was addressed and the author seems satisfied or does not respond, then the thread is open to free conversation about that particular subject or whichever way it happens to drift.

If we had talked about 1K shooting in our very first posts, then I suppose THAT would be hijacking ;) But we didn't.

Oh look! the subject changed again! Now you are the hijacker!
