Bruno's Shooter Supply = Disappointed

well fellas, I typically DO NOT do this, post negative responses about vendors.

However, this has been bothering me and I need to tell my story.

I have dealt with Bruno's Shooter Supply in the past, no real issues.

Last Wednesday I called up Bruno's Shooter Supply and ordered (50) 22-250 Lapua Brass at $0.94 apiece for a subtotal of $47.

I asked how much shipping would be and the gentleman could not give me an answer. So I said fine, no problem.

I check my checking account on-line later the next day.

$64.70 was charged to my account.

$64.70 - $47.00 = $17.70 to ship (50) 22-250 Lapua Brass.

I called Bruno's Shooter Supply back to ask why shipping, in my mind, was fairly high. The person really had no reasonable response to me. I asked was it shipped OVERNIGHT by mistake = his response was NO. I told him that this will affect my future purchases. His response was INDIFFERENT.

AND yes, I do understand that people in a small business need to pay for overhead, shipping personnel, etc.

But $17.70 to ship a, at most #1 package from Arizona to Ohio???

Shipping was UPS Ground, checking on UPS' Webpage, delivery time is going to take 7 - 8 days.

I am done with Bruno's Shooter Supply, too bad for them.

The packaging materials plus 2 lb UPS gnd AZ to OH insured for 50 bucks for 17 something is not unreasonable. Its called S&H. You are whining.

For proof go to the UPS web site and get an estimate.

If you also got charged local state sales tax (which more and more web order places are doing nowadays, its the law), and a flat-rate 6 or 8 bucks for shipping, you are an uber-whiner.

Nah.... He had the right to know how much a S&H was when he placed his order. I fully understand shipping cost. I also know I get a much cheaper rate with UPS because I have an established account with them, like all vendors do. The vendors that have the flat rate shipping are getting more and more of my business. Too many companies are starting to encorporate S&H into their profit margin. Tim

USPS in Priority shipping flat rate boxes, now with tracking Numbers is the most value at this time. Unknown shipping charges to the purchaser is a blank check for the vendor. If you can not give an approximate quote for shipping when you as the vendor have had years of experience in shipping items, something smells

Yes most vendors get discounted rates on shipping, Sounds like they are now selling USP shipping at list price even though they get it for less. Small items such as this brass sent USPS flate rate small box for less than $6 plus a couple dollars for handling should be more than enough in my opinion.

+1

I couldn't agree more with this post! I am not attacking Bruno's in general here but many even bigger that charge a large sum for shipping! I feel it is sneaky to me to advertise a reasonable price on something and jack up the shipping!

Midway was just as bad on shipping, but they may have seen the light. Many times I would put an order in my cart and not make the buy because of the shipping charge. I did that recently on some small items (brushes, patches, etc.) and the shipping was only about $6! I about fell over because it used to come up closer to the $17 the OP mentioned. I placed the order this time.

Recently order 3 t-shirts from a print shop. Shirt cost was $42.00. Total weight about 1.5 pounds with box. UPS shipping charged was $16.36.

I just toss this in to suggest that shipping rates have been going up on all sorts of merchandise. I do agree that we would like all vendors to be able to estimate shipping costs with some reliability before confirming the order. That is a reasonable expectation these days.
