Browning T-Bolt...Experience and opinions please.

I am considering a Browning T-Bolt sporter as my next 22 LR . I have never held one in my hands so I have zero experience . It will be used mostly as a backyard shooter at 50 yards . For the folks with experience shooting the T-Bolt ,could you please share your thought ? Thanks

I enjoy mine and it is plenty accurate for 25-75 yard plinking at spinners and such. Mine is the "varmint " barrel version (really just a heavy sporter configuration) and I really like the balance for my uses. It does take a little gettting used to not lifting and pulling the bolt but rather pulling directly back, but it gets easier with practice. Magazine ejects with enthusiasm, so be sure to keep your hand under it when popping it out, especially if you are standing on concrete. Trigger is the only complaint I usually hear since many report 3.5 pound minimum adjustment and no aftermarket triggers, but that can be bettered if you don't mind voiding the warranty. Mine is at a safe 2 pounds.

I have a modern one (Miroku) and have had a Belgian T-bolt. The modern one is much nicer to me.

I love the toggle action but the T-bolt toggle action does not provide much leverage compared to the Anschutz or Izhmash toggle actions. Not necessarily a problem just a point of note.

The Japanese T-Bolt trigger is easily modified; I forget how I did mine but it was just the spring. I may have used a weaker spring or weakened the stock spring. There is info on the www regarding how to do it.

There is also a $250 Jard trigger replacement but the cost is salty, about 40% of the cost of a new rifle. The free spring mod worked fine for me.

Check out the Izhmash Biathlon Basic; an amazing rifle but heavier than the featherweight T-Bolts. I call it the poor man's Anschutz Fortner action...Tom

Thanks folks, that is the info I was hoping for . Trigger was a big concern,I feel better now . I will surely look into the Izhmash rifle,I have never researched that one . I am looking at newly manufactured , and a Belgian Non-Salt wood . I like the older stuff but not sure I want gamble on condition ,I am going by what the seller can provide without checking the bore ,etc. .

I don't know anything about the new ones but I really like the old ones. Best I can remember I have had 3 of them and they all worked great. I might even have a clip' I'd have to look. Mainly the underside of the receiver and barrel is what you want to check for rust from salt wood

Thanks for the input . The seller said he pulled the action and saw no rust . I asked for some good photographs . His were blurry but it from what I can tell it looked nice .

I have one and it's ok, fairly accurate but not really impressive as far as build quality goes, would rather have a CZ 457 or Tikka If I were spending money on a new gun.

Thanks, I have the T1x and a 457 Varmint on the way . The Tikka is a great rifle , just does not thrill me for some reason . Looks mean a great deal to me ,and that magazine is something I can't convince myself I like . Thought of looking into a blind single shot adapter ,I mostly shoot in the winter so not sure that is practical.

T-Bolt .22 Mag w/AA maple stock and a Jard trigger here. 10X Weaver Target on top thanks to Snert. What a beautiful and accurate rifle. Trigger is 8 oz.(?) with a little creep, not perfect but good enough to make standing shots easier. Bought a couple of extra mags and a 500 rd. Box of Federal 30 gr. V-Max that it loves and it will keep me happy for quite a while.

I was wondering the same thing as Dusty . I googled it and had no luck finding one . Sure saw a lot of praise for the rifle though .

@Dusty Stevens ...I had never seen the Steyr until you posted . Do you know of a source to buy one ? I did a quick search and found zero . I like Steyr ,have never owned one in 22 LR . Thanks

Issf makes them for steyr. I just bought 2 of them from cdnn a few weeks ago

That Steyr looks neat.

Plus, in addition to the optional knife, it looks like you can mount a radio or coffee pot to the rail...Tom

Steyr does seem cool, will find out soon enough...Fedex is bringing me one today . My CZ 457 Varmint Pro came yesterday ,looking forward to comparing the two .My quest for a T-Bolt is still on...just got off on a tangent buying the other two .

Thanks to @Dusty Stevens for enlightening me on the Steyr.

I was wondering about the stock situation . The whole Steyr thing is new to me,are there many options ? If so, can you throw some names at me . Thanks
Any stock fits if you make it fit!! You can get a regular stock from issf that makes the gun itself if you dig a bit im sure
