Browning BBR chances

Hello,
Major newbie here, formerly of the land of trap and skeet. I have been reading up as much as possible about how to enter the world rifles. Here is the kicker, I was just given, totally free) a BBR,270 win) from the mid/late 1960s. It is currently without a stock or bolt as it was a project until the owners demise.

So, here I am with a free action, trigger and barrel. If I add a cheap stock and a replacement bolt, I can be shooting this thing. However, my inclination is to finish this fellas project, sell it and use the proceeds to build what I think I really want.

My question is this, can a BBR action be made to shoot? That is to say, would it make sense to continue with my project but substitute the BBR action for the 700. I'm inclined to think not as I'm assuming more of you would have gone this way if it were in the best interest of accuracy.

Could this action be used for a 6.5-284 and would this be a good option as I have access to a 1000yd range,Oak Ridge TN)

Thanks a lot fellas,
I'll be looking forward to your thoughts

Studious,
You may have a problem. The last BBR that I had was like a Weatherby and had 9 or 12 lugs??? on the bolt. If you found a bolt, how would you fit it with all those lugs to fitup? I paid $300 for one in 30-06 that was a real nice rifle with nice wood. I gave it to my Bro-in-law. It shoots pretty well and has a 60 degree bolt lift.

Well, here my newbie status really shows up. I found out that this is not a BBR but rather a 1967-68 high power. It's serial number is 8L-44741. As I look in to the receiver, I don't think that this one has the 9 locking lugs of the later BBR. I am currently waiting to hear back from my local gunsmith to see if parts will even be available. In the interim, I am trying to figure out why there are not more Brownings on the firing line. Is it a matter of there not being adequate after market parts such as triggers and stocks, or is there other reasons for the lack of Brownings. i.e. can they shoot?

Thanks for the help

For what its worth, I have 2 Browning A-Bolt bolts for sale if anyone is in need of one. I can send pics to any interested persons.

Studious,
Most of those were built on Sako receivers. Some were built on Mauser receivers. There is a Sako forum. You might check with those guys. You may also go to www.accuratereloading.com forum. Go to the gunsmithing forum and ask about your receiver there.
