browning a-bolt redo

Want to change a browning a-bolt 270 cal to more useful cal. for varmints, ground hog, fox, coyote, crow, etc.)Would like to be a 200+yd and economical to reload. What are some choices with this gun?

That being the case, sugestions as to barrel manufacturer, lenght, twist, will it fit stock, reciever and/or bolt mods, maybe a trigger job? I am open to experienced help on this.

FWIW, I went with a 6BR,from .243 Win) with a 28" Douglas #8, 1:10 twist, sitting in a McMillan A2 stock. No bolt mods were required, though there will be going from .270 I believe) and I'm still looking for someone to handle the trigger. It's not terrible, suitable if it were a tactical rifle, but a Jewell it ain't...and Jewell isn't interested in working on it so I'm looking elswhere. At any rate, you should be able to get to where you're going for under $1500.00 in 'smith work and that would include a McMillan stock. If you want to shoot heavier 6mm bullets, say 95's or 107's you'll want a 1:9. If you'd prefer to shoot lighter bullets faster, go with a slower twist. I assume you handload? There's very little choice in the way of factory 6BR ammo and it's pricey. -Rod-

First, thank you for your advice. This is an occasional use farm rifle. I will first try the 110 ammo route and if I don't like the results will do the barrel and tuneup. The gun has some family history so would like to keep. Sounds like I could have as much in the upgrade as a new gun in a varmint cal. CARL
