Broughton barrels

I bought a new one at the start of last season. They never were very popular in the short-range game. There were a bunch used for 1000 yard BR. at Williamsport. They did a bunch of winning in 1000 yard BR and set a few records. Most of mine shot really well. Matt

These are excellent bbls. I had 2 when I first started out in longrange br and both would shoot in the 0's at a 100 yds, 1.25" @ 500yds and around 5"@1k for 10 shots. I had numerous 5 shot 1k groups at 2-2.5"
I was swayed by the success of other brands and have tried them but when my current bbls are done I will be going back to broughton.

I have a BROUGHTON 6PPC. 1-14 TWIST 1.200X.900 chambered by BOB GREEN,with a VAIS BRAKE installed. 400 rds fired.this was a back-up bbl.sold the rifle & don't need any more. threaded 1-1/16x16, for an old Farley or rem.I WILL SELL FOR $300 SHIPPED. EXCELLANT CONDITION.
.

I have a lengthy procedure for breaking in all my barrels, but it reaps the fruits of labor on the other end. I just finished a 284 Shehane 1-9 twist and by my standards it showed NO copper fouling and cleaned with the same amount of pressure on the cleaning rod on shot #9. If it ever stops raining here in Ohio, I will begin load development. I have several Brux bbs. in 6mm, 6.5mm, 308 and now 7mm. I haven't had a dud in the bunch of them. BTW, I'm shoot sling/prone shooter and run 97%+ on a regular basis, Ken and Norm are super guys, so buy with confidence.

They're as good as the other barrel makers. It comes down to personal preference. If 98% of the shooters were using Broughton barrels, which barrel would be in the winners circle? Since 98% use Bartelin and Krieger, which are in the winners circle? Get it :o

Well yes - but why do 98% of shooters favor the B's? Are Broughton cut or hammer riffled?
It's called popularity. Does the most popular action (BAT) win more than STOLLE actions? No. They just happen to be on the majority. It's the person piloting the ship, not the ship itself.

Neither...they're button rifled. They make a very good barrel. I've had a fair amount of success using them in short range VFS matches. I consider them to be at least as good as any other current barrel maker's product. They actually offer some benefits that others makes don't, such as triple stress relieving.

There's a lot of truth in shear numbers having a lot to do with what's winning. We're blessed to have such good quality barrel makers and I hope that continues to be the case...and maybe even have a new one to choose from soon. ;)

Broughton barrels were very popular in the 80's and 90's in the short range game. Shilen, hart, douglas and broughton were the big names back then and they are equal to any button rifled barrel out there

C'mon Dusty ;D Unless one needs a non standard or oddball twist, Broughton barrels are equal to any cut rifled, or, button rifled barrel made by our top barrel makers ;)

Hard to tell if you're being facetious or not. Care to elaborate?

You can always check equipment lists. I doubt youll see any button rifled barrels on it but one pops up every once in a while. And BR shooters dont care about the cost- if a broughton barrel was $1200 and it would win? I can hear it now- "lets have 10 of em" i have wooden crates in my shop full of barrels shooters send for their year. Aint a button barrel in the whole stack

You piqued my interest with that Dusty.

I looked at the 2015 Super Shoot equipment list. Among the cut rifled barrels, were button rifled barrels also.

Hart - Shilen - Muller

Perhaps you overlooked that one Dusty?

Maybe a Mike Ezell crafted tuner would help to equalize my Broughton barrels ;D
If a tuner fixes it, it wasn't a barrel problem in the first place. ;D
Not that it was needed, but, that was a plug for your tuners and craftsmanship ;)
