broughton 5c 1 in 12 24' 308 win

the chambering and headspace were to be optimized for 168 gr. federal gmm's and i've fired around 45 at paper cleaning with copper killer and jb increasingly 2-2-3-3-3-5-5-5-5-5-5... after sighting in at 100yrds where protected well from wind with rowed pines, the last 15 rnds or so were all easily finding a 4" cicle at 400yrd with some tighter than that before a slight wind was noticed but went without corection. my goal is to get a good dope for the fed gmm before reloading the brass and working up a load. i've been waiting for two weeks to use a friends chrono so does anyone know what velocity to expect with the barrel/ammo? and does anyone have any suggestions for the best usage of the next 55 rnds as far as cleaning intervals and trajectory testing so i can get a good chart for the factory ammo? sorry to be so winded but im new to the forum and im alitte excited. my most opportune places to shoot are 400-500 but im working on getting on out there. i'm trying to post a pic of my new rig.

I dont stress about barrel breakin anymore. Some do some dont. When I first started, I went along with Krieger's instructions just to be safe. You'll find all sorts of variation in what people think should be done and what should not be done.

Your 4" circle at 100 should be considerably less once you get used to the rifle.

Try the 175 GMM if you can. Also handloading will get your grps to where you want, tuning to your rifle specifically. It just takes some experimentation from the start to see what your rifle likes. Kinda like marriage, lol.

i need to correct that post... i sited in with the first few rounds at 100 yards, then proceded to place the next 15 rounds or so in the 4 inch circle at 400 yards with a noticed full value 4 or 5 mph wind that went uncorrected for. the vertical from the factory rounds was more like 1.5 inch or so at 400... fired almost 100 fed 168s thru it now and have got the vertical down to as little as 1 inch but i'm not that good at judging wind yet. i've never competed, maybe some day, some friends and I just pretty much set up on the mountain and see who can hit beer bottles the farthest to be honest with you :) I'm more into the precision thing than they are, they're shooting my reloads in factory rifles and i'm shooting factory ammo in a $4000 customand. some of them shoot better than i do as i have just found out i need eye surgery at the age or 26,i thought i had a bad NSX 12-42 before going to the eye doctor)

ne way, i will try the 175's i just got some berger vlds and RL17 so it's almost time see whtat i can make it do, lapua brass and neck bushings on the way!
