Broken tap

I was putting a bead site on a "shortened" 870 shotgun barrel with rib, steel) and the the tap,3 x 56) broke off flush in the rib's surface. There is "no bite" on the broken tap end.
I would appreciate your help, any suggestions?) in removing the broken tap?
Thank you,
Dick

They make a broken tap remover and Brownels.com has them.
It is a small three legged tool with a sliding ring that hold the legs in the three side of the tap and you just unscrew it.
If your careful you can take a small punch and carefully try to tap it out in reverse.
Some taps are pretty brittle and can be broken out little by little, again being very careful........

It's been my experience that the smaller the tap the tougher it is to remove without doing any damage to the surrounding area.
When all else fails try to find a well equipped machine shop that has EDM,electronic discharge machining) capability. The EDM process can blow that broken tap out of the hole without touching one iota of the metal around it. It might save you time and money, plus whatever hair you have left on your head!

HTH,
Alan
