Broken Extactor in a Cooper Model 38, .20 Vartarg.

I’ve got a Cooper Model 38 in .20 Vartarg that now has a broken extractor claw. Has anyone replaced a Cooper extractor and can share info on what was used, procedure, ext.?

I figured out that this rifle uses a Sako style extractor and that Pacific Tool and Gauge has Sako style extractors for sale on their website but do not know if these are direct replacements. Their photo of their extractor looks the same as what is in my bolt but I am not sure since I haven’t been able to figure out how to remove the extractor from the bolt yet.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I've done a few, they are not available from PT&G, get ahold of Glenn at Cooper of Arkansas. he should be able to sell you one. they hard are to replace because they are sooooooo tiny. the simple instructions are: pull the front of extractor away from the bolt, using a small tool, put pressure on the spring follower, release the extractor and slip a small tool between the back of the extractor and the spring follower. push the spring follower towards the rear of the bolt so it clears the extractor, remove extractor. now doing all these steps with only 2 hands is a challenge. good luck

Just received a call from Glenn a few minutes ago. He will be sending me the replacement extractor, no charge. He offered to have me send in the bolt for the extractor replacement but since I was able to remove the broken extractor myself, I elected to just have him mail the extractor to me.

He said they keep extra extractors on hand for situations like mine. I asked about buying an extra to keep on hand but they are in short supply so he can't provide any unless you have a broken one. He said they will be making more so they will always have them on hand for replacement parts when needed.

Super nice guy and nice to know that thay are still there to assist when you have a problem with a Cooper rifle.
