Broke 5200 fps w/224 McDonald.

:p Some people think 5000+ fps is mythical. Well just thought I would put out ther that I got 5239 fps a couple weeks ago with my 224 McDonald. Got it using my Rem 700 w/ a 30" Hart barrel. It's based on an improved 6BR case necked down to 224. Used a 30gr berger.Charles McDonald chambers his custom cartridges and has been developing them for years. If anyone is intrested give him a call at 780-325-2509, tell him XmarksSpot sent you. Below is a pic of the cartridge with a 40VMax bullet and my 700.

Cool!!!!!
But were are the bullets going?? Really throw us some targets to see if this thing really has accuracy potential, be curious to see myself.

No doubt a hard varminting bloody messing bullet:D

Was just using the chono first time out with the 30 berger. Have since done a couple of groups with different seating. At 20 thou back from where it first touches the lands I'm getting .5" groups. I'll post some pics next week of the groups if I can get out to the range.

Fascinating news. If possible could you post a picture of your case with the 30gr Berger, and a non-modified 6BR case alongside.

Also... for general information, Berger DOES make a 30gr .224 bullet. It is stock # 224030M . It has a .121 BC and will work in 1:15" or faster twist barrels.

The bullets are staying together. Berger has them on their site in the "product / hunting - varmint section". Below is the case before and after forming. As you can see it has a 40 degree shoulder and far more case capacity.I don't have a pic right now with the 30 Berger. My most accurate loads are with 50-52gr bullets with bughole's the norm at 4200 fps. 40 gr bullets will do 4800+ fps.

Thanks for the photos and finding the right section on Berger's site!

Sure looks similar to a 22 Dasher, with the 40 degree shoulder. We know the 22 Dasher can be a very accurate cartridge.

Wow thats darn fast. Wonder what barrel life will be like?

I clocked my 22BRX with 55gr nosler ballistic tips at 3745fps, and still not having any pressure troubles what so ever. I was looking to get about 3800 with it and if i could get the 60gr ballistic tip to about 3650 for hunting, then I was going to change to them. But with my 1:10 twist lilja barrel, I dont think i would like to try the 30gr bergers. Reckon they would explode after leaving the barrel.
