BRM can I add a loading port

have a BRM right bolt and right port and right eject

wanting to take it to a gunsmith who builds good rifles in Canada

can he carve a loading port on the left side similar to the dual port Borden’s or a bat?

it might be easier than selling this one and I,porting a new dual port as Neerlandia the importer says all sold out for next year

understand that it must be done by someone who has real skills and would be better off doing this by buying a brand new action

will only go to a 100-600 yard shoot 3-4 times a year and it would be about 1000-1200 to do the switch to new

not trying to be cheap but don’t wish to wait a year or more would like to be ready for spring 2023

it will be a 6BR with 105 projectiles. then it is a left load right bolt and right eject which is what I am used to shooting at the bench

thoughts please as don’t wish to bother mr borden and there are some trusted gunsmiths here

Yes, I have done this before. You just cant remover the manufacturer and SN info. Its simple machine work but certainly high risk-low reward. If there was a negative, it would be that your ejection port will be full sized so you will be able to throw a round right through the action. So you will just need to be a little more deliberate about how you load. You can just throw em in.

I have done this for my own actions in the past. It’s just basic mill work once you decide exactly where you want the port.

Since Borden Actions are machined from 416, it will be easier on tooling than a 17-4 Bat, Farley, or a Chome Moley action. High speed steel end mills will work fine with coolant.

if it were a 17-4 action, a carbide end mill would be my choice.

The way I cut mine was to thread a straight piece to screw into the action,. This mounts in the milling machine Vice. Then just place a support out on the other end with a planer jack held by a typical milling slot bolt and support.
