Breaking In A New Rear Rest Bag

One of my shooting buddies (?) knocked my 40 year old leather rear shooting rest bag off the bench onto the concrete floor last week. The old leather split open along one ear ruining the bag. I received the new replacement Protektor A13 bag a couple of days ago. The new bag seems quite hard and stiff compared to the old one. I'm sure it will soften up with use and age, but I'm thinking that maybe I should treat it with some sort of leather conditioner to speed up the process. Ideas or do I not really have a problem? I haven't tried the new bag yet. Vic

Glad I did a search. Before I appliy a little neatsfoot oil is there any other recommendations to soften a rear leather bag a bit?

I suggest keeping it in your car trunk. The road does a great job of slowly stretching the leather, helping to break it in....;)

Regards
Rick

Saddle soap use to be a way to soften leather.
I prefer the stiffness. A saggy bag needs replacing.

Check in your area to see if you have a tack and saddle shop.
They will have what you need. Some has already been mentioned.
My small pinch bag I use for general testing, I soaked down with
Louisville Slugger glove prep. I believe it's make up was mostly
Mink oil. Did not take much time at all. When done, in went the
heavy sand.
