Brass from Brownells

Ordered some stuff from Brownells and they had 223 Lapua brass on sale so ordered two boxes of them as well.

Order was delivered today and both the blue boxes had the seals cut, as in they had been previously opened. Never had that happen before, have bought a lot of Lapua brass and always had them show up sealed. This was the first time I bought brass from Brownells however. Just curious to see if anyone else has had this happen?

I bought 2 boxes of Lapua 6BR from them a while back and it was sealed. Their customer service is pretty good, I'm sure they would exchange it if you wanted them to.

I guess what you could do is weigh them to see if there is a huge variance and likely there wont be but if so send them back. When I see seals broken it makes me think someone was cherry picking through some boxes to get what they were after. Call them tomorrow and see what they say.

Maybe someone returned them previously after they broke the seals. I returned 30-40 AR mags years ago that my unit ordered but never used because of bad workmanship without a receipt and they gave me credit. Great people to do business with. Send them back with confidence.

Good point. I weighed ~15 cases from each box and they were within reason (about a one grain spread). Lengths are very consistent and overall they look good, necks seem to be a consistent 13 and there was 100 in each box. I'll just load and shoot.

Doesn't Lapua normally put 101 cases in a box? Seems like that has been my experience in the past, but I haven't opened a box of new brass in awhile.

To be honest, I'd keep them and forget about it. They're not exactly perishables. It's very unlikely a batch of Lapua would be so out of spec you could get burned, especially since you already checked some out.

Today I received my .223 Lapua brass order from Brownells, and the factory seal was carefully cut on both sides of each box. I am sure the brass is fine, and I appreciate the sale price, but if it is their intention to sell every box with a broken factory seal, they should describe it as such on their website. I will call them tomorrow and ask them for a small discount on my next order.

In a way good to know I was not the only one. I'm with you Morpheus, they should represent the product correctly. From here on it's Bullets.com which is where I usually get my brass.

If today I received something from Brownell’s and I found something to complain about I would first contact Brownell’s. If they die not take care of my concerns I would then be entitled to complain to everyone, that does not mean I would but if I complained to everyone first, well that is not the way I do things.

Then there is Richards Micro fit stocks, I told them I thought I could train wood peckers to do a better job. And now if I can come up with $4,500 dollars I will be in the stock duplicating business.
