That thing must be a monster. Based on my experience, most of the small consumer-grade US units would either not do any meaningful cleaning with a load that size in that (or any) amount of time, or would eat themselves from being over-loaded.

Well Monte it's not as big as Jay Leno's in his Garage, it's 11"x12"x10" and came out of a old Jewler, Clock Repair shop in the early 80's and is an Industral unit, not a "hobby unit".

My current one is considerably nicer, a Bransonic 2510-MTH - similar size in volume to the HF el cheapo units, just a whole heck of a lot better built and more powerful. Still table-top class, but not exactly typical home-consumer grade. Things move considerably faster using it, but its still a long ways from throwing in even an hundred pieces at a time and doing any meaningful amount of cleaning - and I tried most of the commercial and home-brew cleaning solution recipes at the time.

That thing has a capacity of something like 5.5 gallons? Probably looking at what, $2-3k or more for a new one? BZ on finding a used one in good condition!

From your initial statement I thought you were going to tell me you were using one of the larger HF units, or the eerily similar Hornady 'magnum' version. Their promo photos showing the basket chock-full of brass all coming out clean in 20-30 minutes kinda makes me roll my eyes... ::)

+1 for the $60 Harbor Fright ultrasonic cleaner with white cider vineger/water and a touch of hand soap and rinse with a titch of baking soda/water. Squeaky clean inside & out for minimal $$ - I'm a cheep bastid I know.

I recently changed to the SS media. Had an older RCBS Sidewinder tumbler and it works great on 100 .308 cases at a time.

I de-prime and size first, tumble/clean, and then trim just before loading. Case mouth issues are non-existent for me.

The SS Media cleans every part of the case, inside and out. It's like using new brass every time.

It's not only eliminating the corncob and walnut shell purchases but the dust, lead contamination, and having to use polish.

My "cleaning expense" has now gone to about $3 every other year or so (for the Lemi-Shine). 1/2 tsp of Dawn from my wife's dish washing bottle every load and she doesn't miss it a bit 8)
