BR Rifle Case, how do you transport your BR rifles to matches?

Currently I use Plano Air Glides to transport my short range and mid-range BR rifles but I'm looking for something with a little more padding without breaking the bank. Thought you guys might have some good ideas to share. Pics would be nice if you have them.

Go to a local fabric store and sort through the foam sheets most of them carry. Supplement or replace what you have now for something a little thicker that will still allow your rifle to fit. Once you get by the type of case you have now, both weight and price start advancing exponentially.

I bought a SKB because I needed to get a 6 inch wide gun with a 30'' barrel in. They stack on top of one another in the back of truck and don't slip off each other. They have a male and female notch molded in. I bought model 5009 which is a 2 gun case. It comes with an extra 2" thick piece of foam to put between 2 guns to keep them from touching. They are not cheap but if your gun gets damaged by the airlines they will pay to fix or replace gun up to 1500 dollars. They are really tough cases.

I've been using the Plano Case for a couple years now. I have hauled my guns for several thousand miles and haven't had a moments problem with damage or problems with the gun coming loose from its straps when the case fell over. I have hauled them in the back of my truck through all kinds of weather. Again no problems. When I get home all is well. I am curious as to why you are not satisfied with the case. The only thing I wish Plano would do, is offer a longer case for longer guns.

Stinger case? According to the website - 50lbs. I never weighed mine. With two 17 lb. rifles plus other goodies in it, 2 people can handle it easily. If you put wheels on it like one of the articles shows, it would be easy for one person. I just leave mine in the back of the pickup.

So... I ordered one of these containers and am now curious how beat up, scratched and rusted it will be... all will add character I suppose... also where is the best place to pick up some decent foam to re-work the inside?

I believe they are made of aluminum so no rust. The 2 that I got were in decent shape. Maybe some scratches but not beat up. You can check online for foam or look around for furniture repair stores or places that make cushions. I believe the charcoal grey stuff comes in different grades of "stiffness".

If you need/want to cut or shape it yourself an electric carving knife works well.
