br accuracy in a 223 ??

so a 26" 1/14 twist hart, 52 gr bib bullets, sorted lapua match cases, 205m , fed ar match, and tula srm primers/
what is | has been your best powder, consitent results.
trying for less than .25 maybe less than .2 5 shots at 100....
yes BENCHREST accuracy
thanks

Not sure if it qualifies as BR accuracy, but my Cooper VR (12T) chambered in .223 will shoot groups in the one-hole category (.100 and less) using N133 in Lapua case, rem 7-1/2 and (get ready) Nosler 40gr BT's.

I don't compete, just eliminate one grass rat at a time with accurate rifles.

Having shot .223s loaded with 90 VLDs for years in F-TR, I've also often wondered about how common its use might be in BR-type matches, particularly at the local level. A .223 Rem with heavies can be loaded stupidly accurate...and that's for use in F-TR. I've always wondered what one could do in the hands of a competent BR shooter/reloader. Presumably, the lack of availability of "custom" heavy bullets might prevent such an idea from catching on widely, but I'd love to see done just for kicks and giggles. I believe the intrinsic accuracy/precision of the .223 Rem is under-appreciated.

that combiination also works for me in 223 and 223AI, only with IMI brass. Some loads have very low SD. Good stuff that 133

It can be done - about 25 years ago John Feamster shot an official Screamer group (<0.1" IIRC) in registered benchrest competition with an AR spacegun in .223, just to prove it could be done.
John feamster, there's a blast from the past!! he used to shoot with us at the Pascagoula range in our across the course matches. bout the same time he wrote his "black rifle" book iirc. hope he's doin well

i have the brass john used.
a signed copy of the book
he shot under .25...nowhere near .1
he did not sort the brass and there was a typical bell curve, which meant there was always gonna be flyers at times.

I'm getting, One hole Group's, in the 1's to, the 3's in, a Fully, Glass "Bedded" .22-250 Rem, 24", 1-14 Twist, "Sporter" barreled, Rem 700 , with, the 55 Gr. FB Varmint, Berger's. It's my longer Range, Sage Rat, Rock Chuck, Rifle and "good" out to 250-300 yards. IMR 4895, is the best shooting Powder ( 1's ) and H-380 produced, the 3's groups
( 38.1 gr's, Thrown ).
The 52 gr FB Bergers, are probably, goona be, a little Bit, "Better" in,.. the .222 or, .223's !

I have a load that shoots 5 shot group ~.26" at 100 yards, and it's very consistent accuracy. 24.0gr vv n-133 with sierra 55gr BK and norma once fired brass. Out of my factory remington 700 varmint 26" 1-12" twist in a bell and carlson stock.

REM 7.5 primers would probably get the most votes among this crowd.

Getting 1/4 MOA from a 223 isn't exactly stressing the limits of precision. A lot of folks reading this are thinking, "my tikka does that with factory ammo."

thinking and saying vs doing are two totally different things
you and your tikas are invited to any benchrest match near you where you can out your OPINION's in print. 5 targets at 100 will be the proof...not single one time targets
i have had this custom bbl with a custom reamer that is nearly one inch at the muzzle to the range a bit. lots of powders, lots of bullets
bring it on if it is so easy

Don't know why vv130 is on there twice but this is the list I would try and maybe LT-30 but thats pretty damn fast burning. Id take this list and throw it into gordons or quick load and match the max pressures and see if any has noticeably lower (shortest) barrel time. I'd suggest starting with that one as long as its case fill is above 90%.

I shoot a ton of 223 and 223AI, both with Krieger barrels that will shoot 0.25 MOA at 100, but I'm not sure if they could shoot much smaller. I think 222 Remington is a little more consistent

I remember reading an article by Glen Zediker saying the same.

That was a great story, he did not even sort brass.
