Boyds stock Mauser Inlet Issue

So I called them during normal business hours twice leaving a message with my inters, full name and phone number. They claim they will call you back but not so far. So first strike.

So I email them and I will say I got very quick response from email so I give them full credit for quick response via email.

So I wanted a Pro Varmint Stock and have wanted one for this action for as long as they have made a M48/A Yugo stock and inlet.

They make stocks for the Yugo M48/A but only hunting profiles for the M48/A inlet. They make the Pro Varmint stock for all other Mausers.

You can get the Pro Varmint Profile Inleted for the following Mauser military and Commercial actions Short and Long Large and Small Ring

The reason I was given was that the Pro Varmint stock likely will not fit the Yugo M48/A action. Which is an out right lie of convince or ignorance of the actual products they already make for Mauser's short, long, intermediate, small ring, large ring and commercial. I do not like liars or lazy cooperate staff.

If anyone wants to see the original email I sent and their reply I will happily post it here as I have nothing to hide!

They lied and treated me as if I am an idiot and know nothing about Mausers or their product line. Nothing ticks me off more than when a company does that.

If they had said something like yes we could make that product but do not intend to due to lack of demand I would have been fine with it. Instead they said paraphrasing " That stock probably would not fit that action!"

P.S. The list above is not exhaustive it is just what I could toss together in about 5 minutes searching their own web site.

Looks like I will have to put up with Richards Microfit for another decade or so. I tried to hit the easy button but Boyds was not having it. Time to put them in the same cart with Starbucks, Target, Dicks Sporting Goods, Hulu, Disney Plus etc....In this case because they are ignorant of what they already make, chose to lie to a customer instead of actually looking into it and falling back on "we do not do custom one of's".

It has been over a decade since I have gone to Target, Starbucks, Dicks Sporting Goods and so many other places. Normally it is because they hate who I am or because of my politics or religious beliefs but hitting the lazy easy button and passing bad info to a customer as customer service is just as bad if not worse.

If they would have been honest and put it down to marketing ie lack of demand I would not have had an issue with it! It is about the principal of the thing!

Boyds CS has always been horrible. I have a horror story of my own. It really sucks that they are often the only option for uncommon guns. Several of my reviews were removed from forums where they are a sponsor. The reviews were just the facts.

If they make a profile you want, get a semi inlet or a flat top and brake out the dremmal and small chisel.

I gave up on Boyds in trying to secure a LH stock and went with Show Me Gun Stocks out of MO. They were able to tell the machine not to inlet for a righthand bolt. End result was a nice, semi inletted, walnut stock that had no bolt notch. Boyds wouldn't even entertain doing that for me.

There are options to the big names. You just have to do some research.

I spoke directly with a fellow that worked for them some years back, doing stock work. He said it was easy peasy and I should talk directly to those involved and not the phone answerer. My out come was much as you found.
FYI same action as you mention and I wanted a pro varmint.
I went with a Richards micro fit. The inlet is really proud, action a d floor plate hang out,not even close to flush fitting. Any wood removal would just raise it to high out of the stock. I was warned prior to this I would have issues.
No more ever on this action.

Many years ago, I bought a Boyds fully finished M1 Garand Stock and handguard set.
This was in anticipation of an M1 purchase, no rifle on hand to try out for fit.
I checked it over, didn't see any obvious damage, and put it on the shelf -for over a year.
When I finally did get to it, I discovered the barrel channel had not been fully inletted.
It needed roughly a half inch larger diameter channel opening along the full length.
When I spoke to Boyd they asked when I bought it; I told them, and the response was:
"That's way outside our warranty coverage; we're no longer responsible for it."
No warranty information of any sort packed in the box.
I offered to pay shipping both ways, if they would just correct it. Nope.

Their web site reads 90 days for returns, but this was long before Al Gore invented the internet.

My last Boyds stock.

I Looked at purchasing a stock from them and after your troubles I am glad I found an alternative.

Sorry I have been gone from the thread.

So one of my twin sons in college was hit by a big rig/semi and his car was absolutely totaled!

I have been fighting with insurance for a while! Praise God he was ok but it has been a fight to get anything from the insurance and looking for a decent used car.

I am also working on a means to clean carbon from oil control rings in cars and trucks in situ with out high energy solvents and with out the need to replace pistons and rings.

Even if you disagreed with my point I want to thank anyone that replied!

Cheers!

They already make it for so many Mauser Actions military and commercial and so many other actions it is stupid for them not to be honest, well informed and up front. It was the principal of the thing that just really pushed me over the edge!

No one should know more about your product and possible applications than those that represent your company.

I absolutely do not suffer fools or liars well! I expect a companies rep to know more about the product than a customer!

I know I'm late to the party, LOL I bought a Boyds for a custom Rem 700 w/ heavy sporter barrel. I bought it through Optics Planet because they supposedly had a no questions asked warranty. The action inletting was not straight but at an angle and the tang was off to one side. I called Optics Planet and they said I needed to contact Boyds. Boyds said they wouldn't do anything because I bought it through a retailer. Optics Planet told me they were not going to do anything because it was Boyds responsibility. Boyd's again gave me the brush off saying I spent my money with a retailer and not them. I have 2 other Boyds stocks and they were fine. After this exchange, I will NEVER ever entertain the idea of a Boyds anything, nor ever do business with Optics Planet. I ate almost $200 and went back to RIchards again and although it took a little work, the results are great. Richards is still not bad considering the alternatives for wood but they were grade A+ when the old man was around.

Sadly both Boyd's and Richard's (not so) Microfit are both lacking in the fringe market, where I believe if they put more effort really could make a meaningful impact on the industry.

I have 3 Boyd's stocks and every single one the front sling studs are visibly off center and a Harris type bipod makes the gun sit about 15° off level. I also wish Boyd's had a more durable finish, its very thin and damages easily, akin to a single layer of wipe on poly.

I've had a few Richard's, sold my last one after spending 10+ hours correcting the inlet and properly fitting the action and bottom metal in a supposed drop-in ready stock. It was also about 1/8" over size all over. Way too much for sanding to remove, especially when I ponied up for A+ grade wood. And excessive tear out in the barrel channel as well.

Sure makes me miss Fajen.
