Boyd Thumbhole stock User Reports?

I'm new to the forum but have been hunting and shooting for about 70 years. I live in midmichigan on 38 acres of woods. I have an old 03A3 Springfield that I am thinking about restocking. Have any of you tried the boyd thumbhole stock and how do they fit?

Thumbhole popularity has died off
I have a REM XR-100 and a Browning Eclipse in varmint calibers….like both but indifferent to the thumbhole stocks on them

I still like my thumbhole stocks and have put them on a number of rifles. The XR100 came from the factory with a Boyd Thumbhole stock, minus the cutout for the mag, since it is a single shot.

A Boyd's laminate stock will be heavy and need bedding. A friend bought one for a 17wsm. I don't like thumb holes personally. For me, they work on a bench, but not in field use or for a fast follow up shot, but that's just my opinion.

I have a Howa 1500 with a stout 21 inch barrel on it that I like its balance is great, the weight of the stock is not an issue as the barrel is not light and neither is the Howa 1500 action.

I have used a lot of thumbhole stocks on a lot of different rifles and really like them...
Some folks don't care for them, not sure why....

On TH stocks, a lot depends on how the grip area fits your hand. Conventional stocks are a lot more adaptable to everyone. I personally don't like the Boyd TH because the grip is very small and the hole very large -- probably so anyone can get their thumb in and hand around it. A proper TH should fill the palm and the hole should be fit to your thumb, along with providing a proper distance to the trigger. While I've used well fitted TH stocks for competition (slow fire offhand and position), I find any of them a little slow for hunting, having to remove the hand out of the stock to work the bolt and then putting it back in place to fire again.
