Boyd Allen

Many of you know Boyd Allen only from his posts here. He is one of the most informed and informative people to ever come here. He has stepped away from his position in International Benchrest Shooters. Though his health has slipped a bit, it’s more a thing of comfort than of danger, as I understand it. I wish him the best and good health.

Boyd,
Prayers for your recovery from your ailments. As said above, you sir are a wealth of information to geezer shooters such as me as well as the fact that you are a welcome gentleman.

Best Wishes Boyd— Thank You for all the patient help through the years

When i first became a member I didn't know who Boyd was, then after reading his posts and seeing how others responded with such a high degree of respect, I began to realize that this man was extremely knowledgeable in the world of Benchrest Shooters. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
Praying for you to return to good health.

Boyd actually taught me how to handload. Made a shopping list for me, then showed me how to put the first few rounds together. I’m going to say, 1990.
It was .308 Winchester. I keep decent notes, I’ve loaded 25,808 .308 rounds since then.
Get well Boyd, and thank you.

I wish you all could see the big smile on my face after reading all of your good wishes and feel the warmth that radiates from them. There is nothing seriously wrong, but my feet, especially my left one, have been swelling enough for the last few months that it was impairing my concentration when doing longer projects like the detailed match reports that I have done for the IBS page at AccurateShooter.com. Phone conversations, or posts and PMs are not the issue, because they do not require the sustained effort or concentration. Bottom line, as far as forum postings go, I will still be around, enjoying the conversations.

On the feet, for a long time I have read about research having to do with a large number of supplements and so naturally when my feet started bothering me I begin trying various things that I have sitting around, to see if I could see any improvement. I soon figured out that salt restriction is helpful. The effect is so immediate, that I really do not need much discipline to remember to avoid it. If I forget, I am reminded almost immediately. Luckily, my wife is a wonderful cook and she has made the needed adjustments.
Beyond that, one of the latest developments has come from rummaging through my stash of supplements and doing a little review. It seems that taking a good amount (1 g. 4x/day) of flush free niacin actually gives significant relief. As you can imagine, this has been a welcome development. Another thing that has perked me up a bit is some spray B12. As we age, there is a tendency toward deficiency and tablets tend to be less well absorbed, so absorbing the spray in the lining of my mouth turns out to be a pretty good method, probably similar to sublingual (dissolved under the tongue) tablets which I also have, but tend to forget to take. Bottom line, this recent improvement has me thinking about moving around more, which is exactly what I need to do. I am blessed in so many ways. This is just a bump in the road that I see continuing for quite a distance in front of me. Take good care of your selves.

Boyd
